The first time I added molding to a room (this one!) I spent days agonizing over measurements and how to create my boxes. But here’s the thing: the box size is less important than the spacing around the boxes. That’s the measurement that needs to stay consistent for a streamlined and timeless look. The easiest way to do this is to use something as a spacer. For me I had some scrap floor boards that were 3.5” and they worked perfectly. I’ve seen people even use remotes! Just keep it consistent above, below and in Bergen your boxes. My other tip is to design the boxes for the wall. If you have doors and windows those are going to most likely dictate your boxes. Sometimes it’s easier to start on those walls since placement and sizes are a bit more decided for you. I love how this molding turned out and I did my primary bedroom right afterwards!
