Tall containers can be tricky when your plant doesn’t quite reach the top.

Yes — you can flip an empty nursery container upside down to create extra lift. I’ve done it before, and it works in a pinch.

But I’ve found they can shift over time, especially with heavier plants or after watering. The last thing I want is movement inside a planter that’s holding a big, heavy plant.

I prefer using something built to handle the weight — it feels more secure, more intentional, and it comes in multiple sizes so you can match it to different pots and plants.

And after lifting that thing into place… I’m not redoing it. 💪🌿

My soil recipe is equal parts Fox Farm soil, perlite, and orchid bark! 🌱

A lot of plants struggle after coming home, and this is usually why.
The growing medium they’re sold in is designed for transport and store displays, not for long-term growth.

That dense mix stays wet far too long, which can slowly weaken the roots and create issues over time.

I’m resetting this one the right way.
Clearing away the old material, giving it more space in a nursery pot, and planting it in a chunky, airy blend that supports healthy root development.

Your new fiddle leaf fig deserves the best start — and it all begins before it even comes inside.

Here are the 3 things I always do first:

1️⃣ Check and refresh the soil. Bad soil = unhappy fiddle. Soak the root ball, remove the old soil, and repot into fresh well-draining soil with good drainage.
2️⃣ Clean the leaves. Soak, clean, and wipe them down so they can actually breathe and absorb light.
3️⃣ Don’t prune just yet. I know it’s tempting but wait 4 to 6 weeks — pruning too soon will stress it out.

Once it’s pest-free, it comes inside immediately and finds a bright indirect light spot. 🌞

Save this for the next time you bring home a fiddle leaf fig. 🌿

Signs it’s time to size up include roots circling the pot, soil drying out faster than usual, slowed leaf growth, or the container starting to feel tight and unstable. When roots don’t have room, the plant can’t support continued healthy growth.

Moving up just a couple inches and refreshing the soil gives roots space to expand and helps the plant stay strong over time.

Here’s how I handle it:
• The plant goes outside and stays separate from the rest of my collection
• I soak the root ball to flush out anything hiding in the pot
• I mist the leaves with a Dr. Bronner’s mix to remove residue and discourage pests
• I finish by watering with biological mosquito control, which breaks the fungus gnat life cycle in the soil

Push the spike into your soil, add water to the bottom of the outer pot, and it slowly wicks moisture up to the roots automatically. No complicated setup, nothing fancy.

Bringing three rubber trees together in one planter sounds bold. It can work. But only if you set them up right.

Start with the roots
Rinse off that heavy nursery soil. It holds too much moisture and can lead to root rot. Clean roots give you a fresh start.

Use the right planter
Go wide and deep so each tree has space. This is what gives you that full, sculptural look.

Build a chunky soil mix
• Fox Farm organic soil
• Perlite
• Orchid bark

This combo drains fast and keeps roots healthy.

Add support early
Use a pole and soft Velcro ties. This helps train the trees to grow upright and together from day one.

Place with intention
Space the trees evenly. Think balance, not crowding. Fill in with your mix as you go.

Secure and finish
Gently tie the trunks for stability. Keep it snug, not tight.

That’s it. Now you have one full, statement plant instead of three separate ones.
