I’ve recently shared some of my personal experiences of racism on this platform and I appreciate so much the level of understanding, the acknowledgment of not knowing what to do and need for personal growth but also just hearing a girl out and validating my feelings and experiences. The overall response to these racially charged anecdotes have been positive and the conversations I’m having in my DMs are so thoughtful and I truly believe rooted in love, compassion and empathy. I know that with sharing anything personal on the internet it will always bring people with opposing opinions than my own, however just so that we are perfectly clear; I am and will always be the expert of my Black life and the experiences that comes with it. I will not tolerate anyone telling me I’m wrong or that I’m too sensitive when I say I was mistreated because of my color. When someone tries to explain away my own experiences with racism, you’re not only revealing how little compassion you have for your fellow man but also your arrogance in something you know nothing and probably will never know about or experience yourself. So I’m going to have to stop you right there and ask you to kindly hit that unfollow button if you think this is a matter of debate or just a difference of opinion. This is my Black life and I will not tolerate conversations or comments belittle or undermine my experiences or try to perpetuate the narrative that Black people will always use the race card when they are mistreated or when convenient.
