The truth is, I don’t deserve it. No one does. I see this statement plastered everywhere, “you deserve it”, promoting you should get whatever you want, whenever you want it. Because you deserve it. Work hard, play hard. A lot of people even said to me when Dustin and I got together. That I deserved someone amazing after what I went through.
We don’t deserve anything.
To point it biblically, what we do deserve is punishment for our sins, because we are sinful human beings.
But that’s not as fun, is it.
Self glorification, that’s what our culture wants.
When we think we deserve something, we lose the gratitude for it. It’s expected versus appreciated.
I want to encourage you today to shift your mentality. Instead of what culture promotes with us deserving anything, instead just be thankful for whatever you are given. Consider everything a gift. Have a gratitude mindset versus an expectant mindset. You will be amazed at how much happier you’ll be, rather than constantly trying to acquire the next thing you “deserve,” or being frustrated you don’t have enough.
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Romans 11:36
