I was sure there had to be some scientific reason, so I looked it up. It’s called “context-dependent memory” or cue-based positive recall; when you pull out the mugs each year or choose one instead of a regular mug, it pulls up cozy, joyful, connected moments which releases dopamine. It’s the same reason traditions like music make us feel calm and festive, but it’s cool when a physical element of my home can have that impact too. Another reason our homes matter!
