Daughter of Ruins by Yvette Manessis Corporon ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a well written, researched and emotional book. I loved the 3 stories and how they all were connected. The bonds between women, especially those that are relatives. And the overall uplifting feel to this book, despite it being an emotionally challenging read. The story spans hundreds of years, from Greece to New York City. It is rich with detail, history and family. Over the many years and stories followed, family secrets unraveled and one woman’s life was changed forever. I enjoyed this audiobook, I was engaged from the beginning. I found that all the stories were interesting and that it was easy to follow. However, I had very high expectations for this book and I did not feel they were hit. I wanted to continue listening and was invested in discovering the end. So, it is possible that I set my expectations way too high for this one or that it is a better read than audio.

The Nanny by Lana Ferguson ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I thought this was such a cute one - with lots of 🔥. I thought the characters were well done and different. I enjoyed the chemistry, the story line and all the supporting characters. A single dad who falls for his daughter’s Nanny. He is a chef who has difficult hours, his daughter’s mother passed away and they have been flying through nannies. Until Cassie enters the picture. Not only does he love her but so does his daughter. After their relationship turns to more than nanny and boss, they discover that they previously met. Will they find a happily ever after?

Sleep Tight by J.H. Markert ⭐⭐⭐⭐

What a fun spooky read for October. This was a thriller with cult aspects that kept me on my toes. The pacing went back and forth between quick page turning and some slow burn pieces. There were many characters, but it wasn’t hard to keep track of all of them. Some twists I guessed along the way, others caught me off guard. I did, however, want the book to be scarier / horror like. It seemed more like a psychological thriller, which I do enjoy. The cover though is fantastic!

The Summer Pact by Emily Giffin ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I enjoyed this book, however I felt it was very superficial at times and also very predictable. The story line was enjoyable, but the characters felt like strangers at times. I enjoyed the strong friendships - that even after tragedy, life and distance, they drop everything for one another. I just felt that we did not get enough realness from the characters. They went from tragedy, skipped a few years, to relationship issues, to dislike of one another to more relationships. They just seemed to not know themselves or one another. All that being said, if you want to read about how 3 college friends have one another’s back through the good and bad, this is the book.

How to Hide in Plain Sight by Emma Noyes ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Eliot Beck lives in NYC and hasn’t seen her family in years. She arrives on her family island in Canada for her brother’s wedding and that is when she see’s her childhood best friend and her first love, Manuel, whom she hasn’t seen in years either. Eliot has OCD, not the cleaning or the turning on and off light switches kind, but the obsessive thinking kind. Most of her family do not know that she has this, and she feels that she needs to hide it from them. I loved the inclusion of OCD in this story. She has struggled with these symptoms since a tragic thing happened in her childhood. Her family is dysfunctional, but in the end, they actually do love each other. The characters were fun, different and memorable. The storyline was interesting, and a big piece of the puzzle talked about mental health. I love family dramas, and this one was great.

The Fake Wedding Project by Pippa Grant ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Ahh, I had zero expectations going into this book (I did not know what it was about!) and I absolutely LOVED LOVED LOVED it!! I actually wanted to be transported into the pages of this book and befriend all the characters. I laughed, I cried, I wanted to scream and hug everyone. It was an emotional rollercoaster and I enjoyed every second of it.

The Blur Hour by Paula Hawkins ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I never really trusted the characters, their stories or even the book itself. It felt dark and creepy from the start. The ending was semi surprising, which is always nice. I think that if there were fewer perspectives and that I connected more with the characters I would have enjoyed the book more.

A Winter Wish by Emily Stone ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I did enjoy reading this and love the holiday vibe, but the enemies to lovers trope didn’t work for me this time around.

I Did Something Bad by Pyae Moe Thet War ⭐⭐⭐💫

Freelance journalist Khin Hlaing’s new assignment for Vogue in Myanmar is to follow heart throb actor, Tyler Tun around and get a scoop on him. Unfortunately, I felt detached from the main character. There was no connection there. Everything about this book felt mediocre.

Echoes of Us by Joy Jordan-Lake ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What an incredibly well written and researched book. Such a beautiful story of strength, courage, love and resilience during WWII. The characters - 3 men who are heroes - connected by one woman that they all love.

Disney High by Ashley Spencer ⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you are anything like me, you grew up watching the Disney channel. Now some of the shows that were discussed were after my Disney watching days as I grew up on Disney during the 90’s, not the 2000’s, but everyone still knew about them. How does being a child star destroy your childhood? How did these stars handled their stardom? Each chapter was based upon a star / show or movie that they were in. It explained the ins and outs of what went on and drama that ensued. I did find myself researching after many of the chapters to find out more. I listened to the audiobook and thought the narrator did a great job. If you love anything Disney, this is a great read to learn about the inside scoop.

The Last One At the Wedding by Jason Rekulak ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Pub Day: October 8, 2024

I enjoyed listening to this one. The narrator did a good job being Frank Szatowski with all of his quarks. I couldn’t believe that this is the same author as Hidden Pictures. This book is so different.

This was another cute STEM romance by Hazelwood. A novella, less than 4.5 hours of audiobook about two lead video game designers, Viola and Jesse, who are rivals.

The Sequel by Jean Hanff Korelitz ⭐⭐⭐💫

I did not read The Plot but decided to pick this one up. There seemed to be some key parts that were missing. Maybe that is the reason why this book was just OK.
