Statistically Speaking by Debbie Johnson ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Gemma is 16, hasn’t had an easy childhood and gives birth to her daughter which she gives up for adoption to give her a better life. As Gemma grows and matures to be a young lady that is respectable and contributes to society, she begins to wonder what happened to her daughter and to her mother whom she hasn’t spoken to in years. So, beings her journey with her wonderful group of diverse friends to find herself and become more confident in her life decisions. This was an emotional story as Gemma pieces together parts of her life. Gemma has some coping mechanisms of counting items in a room that I have seen in other books. I enjoyed reading about Gemma’s journey. I listened to the audiobook and was pleasantly surprised with the narrator in this single POV story.

Thank you #netgalley for my #audiobook #arc

Golden Girl by Elin Hilderbrand ⭐⭐⭐💫

This one has been on my TBR for a while, and I finally picked it up. Vivian Howe is killed by a hit and run. She is a famous author on Nantucket and the mother of 3 older and some grown kids. When she reaches heaven, she meets Martha, her afterlife person, and gets to look in on her family for the rest of the summer and gets 3 nudges. Each of her children and her ex-husband are going through something and handle her death differently. I listened to the audiobook and thought that the narrator did a decent job. While the book was very long, not all parts felt like it dragged on. There were a ton of characters, but I never felt like I had trouble keeping track of them. I wanted parts of the book to be deeper, pieces of the story were very shallow. Vivi as the MC was not likeable. I didn’t love how no one had to answer for any of the wrongs they did. I did love the setting on Nantucket, but the plot and the characters were not realistic.

Behind Every Good Man by Sara Goodman Confino ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

This book was such a pleasant surprise. I loved the characters, the storyline, the interactions. Such a feel good, rooting for the underdog kind of book. Strong women who come from a down place to rise above. I truly adored this book and was sad when it ended. I loved Beverly and her Mom - both who came across weak at the beginning but surprised me as the book continued. Beverly catches her husband cheating on her. Forces him out of the house and gets a job. She walks into a political campaign and takes complete control. Of her life, the office and her family. A must read for everyone looking to smile.

Only Santas in the Building by Alexis Daria (Part of the Mistletoe Collection) ⭐⭐⭐💫

This was a cute holiday romance novella where Evie finds love in her apartment building. The insta-love was a bit much for me. Not realistic in my opinion. I liked the one person POV as I think it worked well for this story. Daria did a good job setting up the plot and the storyline. I did feel that the romance was rushed though. I guess that is what you get in a novella.

The Days Between by Robin Morris ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The whole story was chaotic and complex in a good way. I loved the writing style, and it kept me engaged. The storyline was fun, and the characters were interesting.
This book sucks you in from page 1 and continues through the end. A gripping page turner with a lot of drama and surprises.

The Phoenix Crown by Kate Quinn ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

This was good and clearly very well researched, but not my favorite Kate Quinn book. I think maybe my expectations were too high. I did not connect with the characters, which made it more difficult to stay engaged. I truly loved the story about the earthquake in San Francisco and wish there was more info about it. I also liked that the entire story was counting down to that day. I found the story line between the characters was too predictable - I wish there was more of a unique storyline between them. And more of the historical fiction in the book. I did like that LBGTQ+ characters were included, as I feel this is something frequently missing from historical fiction books. Overall, I enjoyed the book, but it did not hit my expectations.

Jackpot Summer by Elyssa Friedland ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I thought this was a really well written family drama. I loved the different perspectives and experiences between the adult siblings. I loved how despite the situation, they always came back to one another. This was overall entertaining. The characters were real, well developed and they all had unique personalities. I truly enjoyed all of them. I thought that it was an overall sweet and funny story, although parts were not very realistic in my opinion. The 4 Jacobson Siblings meet up at their parents’ Jersey Shore home after their mother’s death, to help their father before he sells. While there, they go in on a Powerball ticket, which changes their lives drastically - for the good and bad. The story takes you on their journey, from childhood memories, to adult life, to all the challenges along the way. For anyone that enjoys family drama, pick this one up.

Is She Really Going Out With Him by Sophie Cousens ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫

Honestly, this book was just a fun breath of fresh air. A new auto buy author!

A Father’s Fight by Robert Parker ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This story broke my heart into a million tiny pieces. I cannot imagine the pain that any parent goes through after losing their child. Especially those that were taken away from them in unimaginable ways. Robert Parker poured his heart and soul onto these pages as a form of healing in the aftermath of his daughter’s murder during the Sandy Hook School Massacre. When Parker was describing the day and how long it took to find out what was going on, I had tears streaming down my face. For the surviving families involved in mass shootings, I had no idea what they went through from being attacked online and in public and being told that their loved one never existed and that the shooting never happened. Why can’t the world just let these families grieve? I am glad Parker, and other families were able to sue Alex Jones, behind the conspiracy theories. I listened to the audiobook and Parker was his own narrator. He did a great job portraying heartbreak and his and his daughter, Emilie’s, story.

Smoke Season by Amy Hagstrom ⭐⭐⭐

I wanted to be pulled into the story and to not be able to put it down. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. I wasn’t a fan of Mel as a character. Many bad decisions were made by her and her friend True. Mel is a fire chief and True is a whitewater rafting guide. Together they have a side gig of drug trafficking. Both were unlikable in my opinion. I wanted more of the story to be about the wildfire experience in Oregon and not the drug trafficking. I listened to the audiobook and was very confused as to whose POV it was as it switched often. Some stories just are not for me, this seemed to be one of them.

The Night We Lost Him by Laura Dave ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

This book was just okay, in my opinion. The characters were ehh, I wish they were more developed. The alternating story lines just did not work for me, it was not really clear how they connected and at times seemed very unnecessary. The book moved very slowly. I am glad I stuck with it, as there were some fun twists at the end, but overall it just did not seem developed enough to be amazing. It had the potential, but fell flat and bored me at times.

When Liam Noone is found dead after falling off a cliff, his children, estranged siblings, question if it was murder. Nora and Sam start digging into their father's past and start to uncover family secrets.

Then, Again by Jaclyn Youhana Garver ⭐⭐⭐⭐

How would you feel if your husband had been in a coma for a year and you knew he would never return? I don’t know if any of us can really answer this unless you have been in that situation.

Under the Mistletoe Collection ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a fun series. I am a fan of most of these authors, so this felt like a treat to me. I thought all the stories were really well done - I loved the interactions, the chemistry and the happy endings. I managed to read all the books in the collection in one afternoon, so quick reads that kept me engaged and wanting more. If you are looking for fun holiday reads, I would check out all the books in this collection.

Thank you netgalley for my advanced reader copy.

Things We Never Say by Caitlin Weaver ⭐⭐⭐⭐

On the outside, lives are seemingly perfect. No one really knows what goes on behind closed doors in someone else’s home. I loved the friendship formed between Anna, Rhea and Maggie, all mothers at a prestigious private school who were put on the same committee during a PTA meeting to help plan the annual school gala. When a scandal is uncovered during one of their planning sessions, they work together to decide whether to expose the scandal or keep it hidden because it involves their own families as well. Many secrets, cover-ups and drama are throughout the whole story made it exiting to read. I loved diving into this one! The characters were fun, and the story line was even better. This was fast-paced, and I loved the multiple POVs. If you are into domestic thrillers and parent drama then I recommend you pick this one up!

The Sunflower House by Adriana Allegri

A beautiful heartbreaking story about the Lebensborn Program and the women that willingly took part of the baby making factory, producing perfect Aryan children for Germany. Adriana Allergri is an incredible writer - I truly can't wait for what is next.

#LTKGiftGuide #LTKHome #LTKFindsUnder50
The Starlets by Lee Kelly and Jennifer Marie Thorne ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a really fun read. I alternated between audio and ebook and truly enjoyed both. This book moved quickly and had a little of everything in it. Enemies to friends. Hollywood glamour. A scene of a movie on an Italian island. Murder. Illegal activities. The mob. And a fun mystery. I loved that the strong female characters had to put aside their dislike for one another and figure out a way to stay safe (and save the production crew!) The descriptions of the locations were incredibly well done. It was just an overall enjoyable and fun book.

The Co-Op by Tarah Dewitt ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

This was cute. I liked the young adult lovers, turned enemies, turned friends and lovers again. I thought it was well done. I really liked the two points of view - today and in the past. It made you feel as if you really got to know the characters. The chemistry and banter was incredibly well done. My only complaint was that it was way too slow of a burn. I felt like the book dragged on way too much. I am all for a slow burn, but this was just too slow. I struggled to pick-up the book for the first half, even though I wanted to know what happened with the characters, I was just kind of bored. The second half I read in an afternoon though. LaRynn and Deacon inherited their grandmothers' dilapidated building. In order to rehab it, they get married to access LaRynn's trust fund. They quickly learn that they have to move on from the past in order to find a future. Overall a cute read!

The Night Before Christmas by Nicola Knight ⭐⭐⭐

I wanted a fun Christmas romantic story and unfortunately was bored while reading this. A slow burn romance that could not hold my interest. Felicity, who has trust issues and hates Christmas, runs into a guy in a penguin suit at the animal shelter on Christmas Eve. The whole story I was thinking, are they going to get together or not? It happens way too late. I was not wooed by the MMC. After the meet cute, it was all downhill. The story didn’t seem to go anywhere, and I never fully connected with any of the characters. There was no spark between the two MCs and no connection there.

The Last Love Note by Emma Grey ⭐⭐⭐⭐

A beautifully written novel about grief and finding life again on the other side. This was a touching and heartbreaking story that will stick with me for a long time. The characters were multidimensional and deep. The storyline and writing style kept me engaged. There were moments of laughter and moments of tears. If your heart can take it, I would pick up this book and read it.

Briar Club by Kate Quinn ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

As always, the amount of research that Kate Quinn puts into her books is unreal. This one is an incredible story about women, their friendships and the secrets that surrounded them during the McCarthy Era. There was history, there was mystery, a murder, lots of secrets and real relationships. I loved the story line and the dynamics between the characters. However, this was probably my least favorite Kate Quinn book. I thought that there were too many characters and points of view. I felt like I did not get enough from all of the characters. That being said, I’m not sure which POV I would get rid of, because they were all great and important in their own way. Overall, another wonderful, engaging and well done book.

Twins on the Train by Suzanne Goldring ⭐⭐⭐⭐

A heroic story of Dora, a Quaker woman who works on the Kindertransport moving as many children as possible out of Germany into England at the beginning of WWII. Rosa, a new mother of baby twins and a 7-year-old daughter, thrusts her twins to Dora in a basket on one of these journeys. It is heartbreaking thinking of how these parents gave up their children for safety and put their children in the hands of other people in hopes for a better life and future. This story was beautifully written, and I connected easily to the characters. Told from both Dora and Rosa’s POV, the story showed both sides of Kindertransport. Both women, who risked everything in the middle of Nazi Germany and the horrific events that were happening and were to come.

Like Cats & Dogs by Lizzie Shane ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

This was really cute. An enemies to lovers book during a bake off competition show. The characters start as friends, turn to enemies living in a small town and then become competitors on a baking show. During the show, their dislike for one another slowly turns back into more. Their banter is great and the chemistry is strong. I loved the strong supportive friends through the story. The competition and competitive aspect was fun. The small town feel was great. It was just a really cute well down book.
