Audiobook Length: 12 hours, 7 minutes

This book has been on my TBR for way too long. I finally was able to pick it up and I am so glad that I did. This was a heartbreaking story about courage, love and strength. While the story is set during WWII, the focus wasn’t on the Nazi’s and horrendous things they did. It was focused on the relationships between two women, between mother and daughter and between family. It was about the strength that one must have in order to carry on when the world is taken away or is unknown. It is about living in the past vs living in the future. The story was very well written, and I was engaged through the fast-paced events that occurred. While I saw the twist coming from a mile away, I did enjoy watching the characters figure out things as time went on. The research that went in to making sure events were accurate was outstanding. I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed the narrator. If you haven’t read this beautiful historical fiction read, I suggest you do!

The Family Recipe by Carolyn Huynh ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

This one was fine, no major complaints, but I also didn’t feel like this was one of those “i can’t put it down and count down until I can pick it back up again” kind of books. I loved the historical part - the experiences and history of Vietnamese immigrants to the United States. How they adapted to life in America and how they raised their children, embraced their community, oftentimes with no family. This story follows 5 siblings after they learn that their wealthy father will only give the winner of a ridiculous competition their inheritance. The story follows each of these siblings, in their POVs, in the cities assigned to them. The different perspectives were clear and the stories transitioned smoothly, I just felt that because there were so many POV that I felt like we knew the characters on the surface. If you are looking for an interesting book about an immigrant family over multiple generations, give this a try.

Such a Good Mom by Julia Spiro ⭐️⭐️⭐️

If you are looking for a story that is about a mother struggling with postpartum depression (and maybe even anxiety) this is the book for you. The struggles of postpartum motherhood and mental health challenges are well depicted. But that is pretty much all the book is about. The FMC is struggling with postpartum when her husband is arrested for murder. She struggles with her feelings towards him and motherhood. She is resistant to help and trusts very few people. The book was more about her struggles than the murder, which I was not expecting. I wanted a little more from the murder aspect of the story, which was fine, but predictable and not the main focus. I think if you want a story about mental health challenges, especially as a new mother, this book will check all of your boxes. It was just not what I was looking for and became repetitive and frustrating to me (not the depression, but the constant descriptions of her challenges.)

When 12-year-old Maya, Lucie’s daughter, calls into a romance radio show to put her mom out there, the clip goes viral. Aiden Valentine, the radio host who doesn’t believe in love, goes on a mission to find Lucie dates. What do you think happens next? That’s right! Aiden and Lucie fall for each other. This was a wonderful slow-burn romance with a lot of laughter. I loved Lucie and Aiden and the banter between them. I loved the consistent support showed from the side characters. I listened to the audiobook, which was fantastic. The narrators did a fabulous job creating scenes in my head. Although a lot of the book was predictable, it was a sweet fun read that I would recommend.

All Our Beautiful Goodbyes by Julianne Maclean ⭐⭐⭐💫

Bethany's Review: Set in post WWII on a beautiful island in Canada. This was a beautiful sweeping historical fiction romance that follows Emma Clarkson on her journey of falling in love and becoming independent. The descriptions of Sable Island felt like I was right there. It was so interesting reading up on Sable Island after I was done with the story. It was obvious that Maclean put in a ton of research to write this. While I was invested in the characters and I think the character development was outstanding, I wasn’t fully invested in Emma’s love story. It fell flat for me. I don’t think historical fiction romance is my favorite genre. For those of you who enjoy that type of reading, you will love this!

Sara's Review: This book was beautifully written. I loved the descriptions of Sable Island. The love, both romantic and family, is so strong and wonderful. It was written in two timelines, which was fine, although I am not sure it really brought anything to the story. I enjoyed that it was a historical fiction, family drama with the main character being a woman who has experienced extreme heartbreak, yet still pushes through. I found it was well written and enjoyable, although parts of the book did drag on a little more than I would have liked. The romance part felt forced and not realistic, but it did not stop me from enjoying the book. Overall, a beautifully written story that will have you reaching for the tissues.

The Fisherman’s Gift by Julia R. Kelly ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I think my expectations were too high on this one. I enjoyed the storyline, the history, the heartbreak and heartwarming aspects of this book. I felt that much of the book moved slowly, and I wish the pace picked up earlier. The book is written in the past and present, from multiple perspectives. I felt that this was done seamlessly, the story weaving smoothly between characters and timelines. The story takes place in a Scottish Village in the early 1900s. A schoolteacher comes to the Island where she struggles to be adjusted. She starts a brief love affair, her young son is lost to sea, and her story is anything but easy. When years later a young boy is rescued from the sea, Dorothy finds herself struggling to differentiate past and present. Secrets are uncovered and pain is uncovered. I thought that the development was well done and beautifully written. I just wanted a little more drama and oomph.

Wedding Dashers by Heather McBreen ⭐⭐⭐⭐

What a fun read this one was! I loved following Ada as she (the maid of honor to her younger sister’s wedding) and Jack (the infamous best man) hit obstacle after obstacle trying to make it to the wedding in Belfast. Ada, the one who believes in true love and a soulmate, ends up travel buddies with Jack, the one who doesn’t believe in marriage. I love the forced proximity troupe here! Even though parts of this were predictable, it was still an entertaining read. I love that both Ada and Jack are not portrayed as being perfect. They each have their flaws, and both become better people together and individually as the story progresses. The banter was amazing, and their relationship felt real. I loved this romantic comedy read and cannot wait to see what McBreen comes up with next!

At the Island’s Edge by C.I. Jerez ⭐⭐⭐💫

I loved parts of this story, including the portrayal of Puerto Rico and PTSD. Lina, a single mom, is struggling after her time in Iraq. She killed a young boy there and it haunts her every day. She moves back to Puerto Rico with her son and begins the road to recovery surrounded by family. As much as I wanted to love this story, her constant reminder and replay of what happened was a bit much for me. Parts of the story were repetitive and lost my interest at times. This was a story of recovery, love between mother and son and mental health.

Summer in the City by Alex Aster ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book was a cute and fun read. I loved that it was set in the summer in NYC - following a screenwriter looking for inspiration. A fake relationship with her billionaire neighbor, who has been her enemy for years. I thought that although incredibly predictable, the book moved quickly, the characters were quirky, their banter and chemistry were great. They each had their own issues, but we watched them work through highs and lows. An overall fun enemies to lovers, fake dating romance. There will be laughter, tears and frustration for the characters, but you will overall enjoy reading their story. If you are looking for a fun, quick contemporary romance for the summer, this is a good one.

One Good Thing by Georgia Hunter ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫

Thank you @prhaudio and #netgalley for my #gifted copy!

Bethany's Review: 1940, WWII in Italy, Lili, a young Jewish woman, is trying to survive with her best friend, Esti. Esti is full of adventure and risk as Lili is more cautious as they travel through Nazi-occupied Italy. Fortunately, Esti’s skills of creating new id’s allow them to do so. When Esti is hurt, Lili takes on her young son as her own. The characters were all relatable, the writing drew me in right from the beginning. I love historical fiction when it shows the amount of research done, but in a seemingly effortless way. Hunter created scenes and situations that were believable for the times. This was a story of courage, heartbreak, survival, love and finding the good out of the bad.

Sara's Review: The research put into this book was impeccable. Italy is not typically the location of WWII books, especially when it is about Jews, but I wish it was. The politics of living under Mussolini, especially as a Jewish person, during Hitler's reign, was fascinating, heartbreaking and horrifying. Although, not quite as horrifying as other parts of Europe during that time. A story about 3 best friends, 2 of whom are deemed inferior for being Jewish. When one has a son, they go into hiding as nuns, and find themselves doing everything they can to keep a little boy (and themselves!) safe from the war. The characters were incredible - well developed, engaging and incredible. I truly enjoyed reading about their experiences, relationships and what they had to do to make it through a difficult time in history. I found this book to be incredibly engaging, well written and detailed. The pace was perfect and I was disappointed when the story ended.

Love at First Flight by Jo Watson ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What an adorable book!! I loved the neurodivergent main character. I enjoyed seeing her from the outside and also learning about what she thinks, feels and why. I found it both fascinating and heartbreaking all at the same time. I loved the chemistry, the banter and the workplace, friends to lovers, fake dating tropes. I thought that the romance was really well done and fun to read. I laughed out loud during parts, I cried, I was fully invested in the characters both personally and as a couple. I truly wanted to become friends or relatives of the main characters - to witness their love, support and commitment was amazing. I loved the slow burn, the growth and change. It was all just really well done. I think my only complaint was that in parts the book dragged on, it probably could have been about 50 pages shorter.

Fake It Like You Mean It by Megan Murphy ⭐⭐⭐⭐

An adorable story about Elle, who moves home to take care of her grandmother, Lovie, that has Alzheimer’s. Elle’s grandmother raised her after her parents died. When she walks in, she finds Adam, the round-the-clock nurse, in her bed. Lovie mistakens Elle and Adam for herself and her late husband. Elle and Adam learn to play along. I love the slow-burn, fake-dating, forced proximity troupes, they are my favorites. Unfortunately, I know all too well the care for someone with memory problems and the situations memory patients can get into. The characters were amazing, especially Elle’s character who was flawed and didn’t really know how to deal with the new version of Lovie. I found myself heartbroken at moments and smiling at other parts of the story. This was a story of empathy, love and change.

Beach Vibes by Susan Mallery ⭐⭐⭐💫

This was not really a romance, except at the very end that came out of nowhere. This was more of a story about a sister, Beth, who owns a sandwich shop in a beach town, and her brother, whom she gave everything up for. Her brother is dating a new girl whom Beth is skeptical about. The characters did develop nicely throughout the story. Unfortunately, I walked away knowing that this book would be unmemorable. While the story line was somewhat interesting, there wasn’t anything specific that kept me truly engaged. I was expecting more of a beachy read and this wasn’t really it.

Everybody Says It's Everything by Xhenet Aliu ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I liked the idea of this book and even the individual stories - but I found that the overall book was not engaging enough. The characters were one-dimensional, which at times made it difficult to connect with them. There were multiple perspectives and timelines, which I do not think fully worked in this book. The story is about Albanian twins, who were adopted by an Italian woman in a wheelchair. It follows them into adulthood and the very different paths that they take in life. The story switches between the past and current day - explaining why they each made decisions which led them to today;. The book unravels family dynamics, finding your identity, acceptance and multicultural differences. I loved all the themes of the book and I even enjoyed all the stories woven throughout. I just did not love the execution. I think focusing on one character's life experience would have made for a strong story and more dimensional character.

Say You’ll Remember Me by Abby Jimenez ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫

Pub Day: April 1, 2025

Abby Jimenez does it to me again. How does she create these beautiful rom-coms with big meaning behind them? I don’t know what is going on, but a lot of books that I picked up this month have dementia as a common theme. We are dealing with my father-in-law that has dementia that is taking over his life, and I can’t seem to get away from it. With that said, it is represented beautifully in this story.

There were so many heartbreaking moments that pair with many laugh out loud moments where I had to tell whomever was in the same room with me what happened. Samantha meets Xavier, a hot vet, days before she leaves Minneapolis to move back home to take care of her mother with dementia. It’s always fun when Jimenez throws in Nadia Cakes into her stories (it is delicious by the way!). I absolutely love Xaviers friends, they were both supportive and hilarious at the same time. My only beef with the book is that Jimenez creates these MMC’s who look absolutely perfect and cannot do anything wrong. I wish she would throw in some real-life characteristics to these men. The women seem to have some sort of issue or something going on but the men come right in and save the day. This was another Jimenez book that I couldn’t put down. I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next!

I think my ranking of Abby Jimenez books are in this order:
1-	Part of Your World
2-	Just For The Summer
3-	Say You’ll Remember Me
4- Fall Risk (short story)
5-	Yours Truly
6-	The Happy Ever After Playlist

This Book Will Bury Me by Ashley Winstead ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have a love-hate relationship with this book. On one hand, I really enjoyed the true crime aspect of this book. The family relationships, sleuthing and twists and turns were enjoyable to read. That being said, it was incredibly predictable, I really disliked that the book was loosely based off of the University of Idaho murders, it just left me feeling yucky. I also found that the book was very long, too long, making it drag on during different parts. I enjoyed the characters, the suspense and the way that the story was told. I still can't decide how I felt about this book - there were things to like and things to dislike... I walked away a little disappointed, however not once did I consider this a DNF.

The Love We Found by Jill Santopolo ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thank you @prhaudio and #netgalley for my #gifted copy!

Bethany's Review: A beautiful story about Lucy who is grieving her lost lover, Gabe, 10 years later. She heads to Italy to investigate a piece of paper she came across to find out more about Gabe. As Lucy finds herself again, she struggles with the choice to tell or not to tell her son who his father is. Does unburdening yourself of secrets allow you to move on? I enjoyed all of the characters, and the storyline was easy to follow. I haven’t read the first one in this series, but didn’t feel lost along the way. I didn’t really like the insta-love with Dax, but still enjoyed reading this one. This is an emotional and heartbreaking story of grief, family secrets and finding love again.

Sara's Review: What a wonderful, heartbreaking story. It is written in such a real way - the story is messy, beautiful and wonderful. You will cry. You will question decisions made. You will want to scream and hug the main character. It touches on grief and regret. How choices we make impact us forever. How people stay with us forever. This book is about finding happiness after sadness. It is about motherhood and family. I don't want to give any parts of it away, but if you loved All the Light We Lost, you should absolutely read this. It moved quickly, grabbed my attention from the story and flowed seamlessly. A story that feels as if a long lost friend is sharing it with you.

Promise Me Sunshine by Cara Bastone ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thank you @prhaudio and #netgalley for my #gifted copy!

Bethany's Review: What happens when your soulmate, your best friend from youth, dies and you have to go on with life? I absolutely love the choice of the narrator in the audiobook. I half listened to it and half read it. I loved both versions. The writing is fantastic, it drew me in from the first word, and I love all of the characters. If you get a chance to listen to the audiobook, do it. You won’t regret it. Lenny's character is amazing. She is quirky, honest and radiant. I loved the slow-burn romance between Lenny and Miles and that while it was there, it wasn’t the entire focus of the story. I smiled, laughed and cried along with the characters. I loved Bastone’s first novel, and this one is even better. A heartbreaking and feel-good story at the same time about grief, love and finding your way back. This is my favorite read of 2025 so far!

Sara's Review: This book was the definition of happiness. I actually found myself smiling while reading and listening to it. I loved the characters, their banter, their chemistry and their stories. This story was about grief, love, growth and those that support you. This book felt real, the characters were incredibly well developed, flawed, funny, and kind. The romance was a slow burn, but not in an annoying way, but a perfectly well developed and fun to read way. I felt a large range of emotions while reading this and honestly would love to see this made into a movie. It was just perfection. The two main characters support one another to get over grief and heartbreak, which slowly turns into a friendship and then love. A well paced, incredibly well written story.

The Story She Left Behind by Patti Callahan Henry ⭐⭐⭐💫

Pub Day: March 18, 2025

Bethany's Review: A beautiful sweeping story with a lyrical writing style. The plot was OK, but the pacing was slow. Not much happened, and it was very repetitive. I loved the research that was put into creating the scene in the Carolinas, in London and in the English Lake District. I never fully connected with any of the characters. Clara, the MC, was obsessed with finding out what happened to her mother after she disappeared when Clara was a child, her mother’s mysterious language and finding the sequel to her mother’s children’s story. Wynnie, Clara’s 8-year-old daughter, didn’t speak or think like an 8-year-old. She seemed much older. I did guess the twist at the end early on. If the ending was stronger, perhaps I would have rated slightly higher?

Sara's Review: I enjoyed this book, but honestly felt like very little happened! It flowed beautifully, the characters were well developed. I liked the history and the descriptions were incredible. However, I think that the story itself could have been half the length and we would have not missed anything. Although beautifully written, much of the book is descriptions and not some much drama, action, something new. The dual timeline was seamless and incredibly well done. A charming story about the magic of words, love and family. I just walked away feeling as if very little happened, leaving me very uninvested in the book. If you are looking for beautiful and descriptive writing, try this one.

Pomona Afton Can So Solve A Murder by Bellamy Rose ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I went into this book with no expectations - I did not remember what the book was about - and I was so pleasantly surprised! It was just a fun book. I thought that the characters were cute - I liked the rich to rags storyline. I felt that Pomona went from an obnoxious, ultra wealthy, rude young woman to a hard working, appreciative and sweet young woman. It was enjoyable to watch her change and grow and learn from her former self. I liked the subtle love story - although the chemistry was felt from the start, I liked that it was just a part of the story and not the main theme. The mystery had no crazy twists and turns, but was fun to read. The book was lighthearted, fun and kept me engaged from the start. A perfect book to escape the realities of life.

Counting Backwards by Jacqueline Friedland ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫

Pub Day: March 11, 2025

Bethany's Review: What an amazing story inspired by true events. Jessa Gidney, a lawyer at a high-profile firm, falls upon a pro bono case regarding fighting against a deportation order. While talking to this woman, she finds out that without her permission, she was sterilized. Digging deeper into the facts, Jessa finds out the unimaginable and that her family was involved in the past. Dealing with her own struggles of getting pregnant, Jessa works to bring a class action suite regarding medical malpractice and the practice of eugenics. The story is told in two timelines and two POV tying together nicely throughout. The writing was easy to follow, and the storyline kept me from putting this down. Many important issues were discussed such as the practice of eugenics, fertility, deportation and family secrets. The author’s note at the end showed the amount of research that went into creating this novel and summed everything up. This is an important read that would make great discussion for a book club!

Sara's Review: Wow, what a difficult, yet incredibly well written story. Two timelines, two characters, centered on the horrific eugenics and forced sterilization programs. The timelines are woven together smoothly- connecting in ways the reader doesn’t see coming. The characters are well developed and real - the emotions are felt through the pages. A complex story, based on truth, that is so important to share. I thought that the author did an incredible job of creating an emotional story that is impossible to turn away from.

The Borrowed Life of Frederick Fife by Anna Johnston ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thank you @prhaudio for my #gifted copy!

Frederick Fife is an 82-year-old man that is mistaken for someone else and brought to a memory care nursing home. Parts of this story were difficult for me to read as we are currently dealing with dementia with my father-in-law. Some of it hit too close to home. With that said, this book is adorable, and I absolutely loved Frederick. All he wanted was love and a second chance at a family and at life, so he made that happen. He borrowed a life. He is nice and gentle to those around him, and it was a pleasure to see his inner thoughts. This was a story about finding family, love, compassion and forgiveness. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was spot on. What a fantastic debut and I cannot wait to see what Johnston comes up with next.

I was SO excited to read this one - murder, island life, wealthy families, secrets and betrayal - sounds like FUN! Unfortunately, the story fell incredibly flat for me. The setting was incredible and well described. I thought the plot set-up was done well. My attention was captured - what happened to Sarah on the Island of Capri? And why does the family return every year? I lost interest pretty quickly though - there were too many perspectives and timelines. Unfortunately the characters were not well developed enough making it difficult to remember who was actually talking. The transition between characters and timelines was not smooth, which also added to the confusion and the struggle that I had to connect. It did not keep me on the edge of my seat, I found that I was too confused at times and not excited. It started out quick, but the pace slowed down. I wish I loved this one, but the pieces just did not work for me.

Saving Five: A Memoir of Hope by Amanda Nguyen ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫

A heartbreaking memoir about the aftermath and red tape after a rape. Amanda was raped at a Harvard fraternity party in 2013. In Massachusetts, the rape kit is destroyed after six months, even though a victim has 15 years to move forward with a lawsuit. As an activist, Amanda has helped pass the Sexual Assault Survivors' Bill of Rights, hopefully to help those in the future. While her feelings were written on the paper, the largest part was the legal system and other red tape. I loved the parts where Amanda talked to herself at ages 5, 15, 22 and 30 as they go through major shifts in her life. I could see that part coming alive in front of me. This was a heartbreaking story of grief, fighting back and hope.

Finlay Donovan Digs Her Own Grave by Elle Cosimano ⭐⭐⭐💫

Another fun Finlay Donovan read! Somehow, she keeps getting herself in situations that are out there. This time, a dead body is discovered in her neighbor’s backyard. Perhaps I’m getting tired of all of the situations Finlay keeps finding herself in. This one of the series, number 5, was probably my least favorite. I did love that Finlay’s kids were showcased a bit more in this book than in the previous ones. There were still many laugh out loud moments, but I think I am done with the unbelievable plot and mystery that was presented. I listened to the audiobook and as always, the narrator for this series was perfection. She really makes it worth continuing on.

The Stolen Queen by Fiona Davis ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really enjoyed the characters in this book - they were well developed, dynamic and their stories were great. I found that the multiple timelines and POVs were well written and woven together seamlessly, however I probably could have done with only 2 of them. I felt that at times it actually detracted from the story line. I thought that the descriptions were incredible and the drama was strong. I was hoping for a little more of the shock and surprise factor than the book actually had, but that may have been my issue more than the book. The story unfolds in Egypt in 1936 and NYC in 1978. Following women at a Met Galley ball, where an ancient Egyptian artifact goes missing. Annie and Charlotte team up to connect the past with the present to find the missing item. Overall, a fascinating historical fiction, with a well developed crew and storyline.

The Girl from Greenwich Street by Lauren Willig ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

There were parts of this book that I LOVED and parts of this book that just did not work for me. I loved the history - Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr - sign me up! The murder mystery, true crime, history, it was all done incredibly well. Based on a true story of a young woman who was found murdered. Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr are working together to keep the man her family is convinced killed her from the gallows. I did not love the language used, I felt that although important and factual, actually detracted from the storyline. I also found that there were too many opinions and characters, that at times were hard to keep track of. I thought that the characters were incredible, well developed, described and realistic. I thought that although some parts were slow, the pacing of the book was overall really well done. If you are interested in history and true crime - this is a great one.

Broken Country by Clare Leslie Hall ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book was incredibly well done. Beautifully written, Heartbreaking. The characters are so real, well developed and flawed. The people next door. The story transports you into a small farm town - you can smell the smells and see the sights. That is how well written this book is. Different timelines that are seamlessly woven together. You become invested and engaged from page 1 - and are not ready for the book to end. You will laugh, you will cry and you will want to close your eyes. Gabriel, the man who broke Beth’s heart has returned with his son, Leo, but she does not realize that until after her brother-in-law has to shoot the kids dog. As she is pulled into their lives, the secrets of her past, the town’s jealousy and the heartbreak of losing her own son, Bobby, are all front and center. Just incredibly well written. An amazing way to start March - and a must read for 2025.

Dominic and his three children chose to stay behind after a group of scientists left a deserted island trying to save humanity by managing a seed bank. This was a story that focused a lot on the crisis of climate change and its effects on people and the world. A woman is washed ashore, alive, and slowly her story is unraveled. The characters were amazingly developed and beautiful. The literary writing swept me along for the ride. The pacing was on the slower side, but I still enjoyed the storytelling. I listened to the audiobook and at times was confused as whose POV it was at that time. Other than that, the narrators were great. There were many themes of climate change, family, parenthood, love and loss that were laced together in a beautiful way.
