They have indigo blue flowers that are produced all the way from the soil to the tips, providing an intense splash of color all summer. CLEMATIS: Always called the "Queen of Vines," nothing else makes the spectacular show of a clematis in full bloom. In almost all zones, these magnificent plants decorate mailboxes, trellises and porches with cascades of some of the most beautiful blooms in the flower kingdom, and they're not difficult to grow. There's no reason you can't add them to your landscape. Clematis is most often seen in softer shades, but Dr. Rupple offers fans a showier choice. This is a bi-color repeat bloomer: in May and June, it displays 8-in. rose-carmine blooms with white anthers; in September, the flowers come in again, but the colors are toned down a bit. There is an old saying with Clematis; "Tops in the sun and feet in the shade." In other words the vine blooms best in the sun and benefits from a cluster of small plants, planted around the base of the plant.
The Dr. Ruppel Clematis does best in fertile, humus rich, well-drained soil. Mulch well with composted manure or compost. Feed once a month with a well balanced fertilizer during the growing season.

Nelly Moser is one of the clematis that everybody wants. And no wonder. The bi-color flowers can reach a whopping 6-8 inches across. I've grown it, and can tell you it never disappoints. As another bonus, Nelly Moser offers two blooming seasons: spring and fall.

Nelly Moser is a type 2 Clematis. Clematis in this group produce flowers from both the prior year's growth and the current seasons. The best time to prune them is in early spring.
