The cardigan might be one of the most versatile pieces in a travel capsule wardrobe.

It’s more than just an extra layer. I’ll wear one over a T for sightseeing, throw it over my shoulders when it’s warm, dress it up for dinner, wear it on the plane—and button it up and wear it as a top.

That kind of versatility is exactly what I’m looking for when I’m packing a carry-on.

The best pieces in a travel capsule aren’t necessarily the ones you wear the most. They’re the ones you can wear the most ways.

These pants are a perfect example.

They’re comfortable and technical enough for an outdoorsy day, polished enough for sightseeing or dinner, comfortable enough for a travel day, and tailored enough that I’d even wear them for work.

That kind of versatility is exactly what I’m looking for when I build a carry-on capsule. I want pieces that cross over between the different kinds of days on my trip—not clothes that only work for one specific activity.
