When I was envisioning this shoot, I knew I wanted it to be quite hazy and dreamy, a bit like a fever dream. I knew I wouldn’t be able to recreate the heart that’s in the end of the video, so I wanted a concept that would call back to the vibes with a spotlight! We did that with a toilet paper tube taped to my phone’s camera on my tripod lol

Detail shot of the adorable choker I DIY’d and rhinestones all over my body! This is such a subtle detail in the music video. I’m so glad I caught it because it adds such a unique touch to the look

This costume is equal parts artistic and sexy, which I think is what draws me to it so much! These garter tights are seriously so much fun and just revealing enough for a playful peekaboo!

This was actually my very first attempt at drag makeup! I’m a huge Chappell fan and I absolutely love this look she did for her My Kink is Karma music video, so I just had to recreate it as an affordable Halloween costume this year. She wasn’t on a label when she did that video, so she too had to work with what she had! I created the base with colorful foundations. I used a cup to get the top of the heart right and a butter knife to get the sharp edges at the bottom. Then I used eyeshadows and lipsticks in my collection for the rest! I glued the rhinestones down with some eyelash glue and that was that! :)
I do wish I had done a little bit better of job blocking my brows, but I’m not mad at my very first try!

Tried ouji fashion for the first time in an Alucard inspired look! It was a really fun challenge to try to contour my face and chest in a more masculine way that I’ve never tried before!

Alucard is such an interesting character - he blurs the lines so much between gender and sexuality, and his existence in sensuality fascinates me as well. I love him in the Castlevania anime and can’t wait to see him again in Nocturne season 2!

I worked soooo hard on this costume! That wig is actually a wig and a half! I spent 12 hours harvesting wefts from an identical wig and hand-sewing them into this one. I spent an additional 12 hours styling it because it is just So Much hair haha. But the result was so worth it! It’s so Chappell!
I also spent about eight hours bedazzling my horns. Because our shoot was quite dark, I knew the black horns would have difficulty showing up. I wanted to have a bit of texture and shine to catch the light in the same ways the sequins of my background and the rhinestones on my body would, so that was the answer!

Chappell Roan is a huge inspiration to me as someone from the Ozarks. I have lived what she speaks and sings about, so for me, her art is deeply personal. Her work is what I needed as a queer kid who didn’t have access to conversations surrounding queerness. To see the world become safer because of people like her (and me!) being their authentic selves unapologetically means the world to me.

So this boa is actually two boas tied together! I fluffed them up by drowning them in water and letting them air dry, and it still wasn’t enough volume for me, so I tied two of them together to look more reminiscent of a burlesque dancer’s fluffy boa!

I think what inspires me the most about this particular look of Chappell’s is her dedication to the bit. Yes, she’s a demon, she haunts the ex boyfriend, but she doesn’t actually hurt him in any way. She’s not malicious, because he’s hurting himself. It’s cheeky, delightful and refreshing to see. I love how clownish and over the top it is, in addition to being vulnerable and sexy!
