Winter 2025

By Dianne_InStyle

Looks for the chilly winter - what to wear between fall and spring!

If you haven’t considered Olive Green as a neutral before, now is the time to think about adding it to your wardrobe. Here’s why:

Olive Green is an earthy, muted tone that pairs well with a wide variety of other colors, the same as your “traditional neutrals” : black, white, gray and beige. It is different from more vibrant greens in that it is understated and versatile.

It’s easy to wear because it complements both warm tones (rust, mustard or camel) and cool tones (navy, charcoal or pink.) It is also a color that works well for both casual and professional settings, which only adds to its reputation as a neutral shade. It also pairs well with both bold tones and softer palettes, making it a wardrobe staple!

How do you feel about the leopard trend? Do you like a little or do you like a lot? For me, I lean towards using leopard as an accent piece, in smaller doses. But there are occasions when I like a little bit more, like this leopard jacket from zara. I like that it’s a little more casual and I will wear it more often that way.

When you scroll through the photos, you’ll see smaller pieces that I’ve added to my closet. The first is my leopard handbag from Kate Spade. I intentionally created a black and brown outfit so that my bag would be the center of attention.

For my jeans and black turtleneck, I added leopard sneakers. They add an element of fun and they are a great transitional shoe to get us from winter to spring.

Burgundy has been an amazing color all season, but it’s time to make way for its replacement: powder pink. Pink expresses optimism, romance and femininity, all a part of the trend for spring.
This shade of pink is a softer pink, not the bright Barbie pink of recent years. It’s definitely a little more toned down and therefore can easily be paired with more colors.

While I love pink by itself, I especially love coupling it with other unique shades. Because we will be transitioning from burgundy to pink, one of my favorite combinations for right now is the two of them together. You can blend in pink with the burgundy pieces you already have in your closet.

I also love pink with chocolate brown and, as we move closer to warmer weather, you can easily pair iti with Pantone’s Color of the Year, Mocha Mousse. So, for now, think a pink sweater under a chocolate brown leather jacket and for later, think of a pink top with a mocha mousse skirt. A pink sweater or sweatshirt is also a great transitional piece for early Spring. When it’s still cool enough to wear a sweater, but you are so ready to put your black away, pink is a great way to go.

Friday is “Wear Red Day” but there’s no reason to not get a head start on it, especially in this month of love!

I love wearing red and I especially love it as a bold choice for work. If this was the 80’s, I would call this my “power suit”!

I purchased this on Amazon, not being sure what the quality would be like, but I was pleasantly surprised. The jacket is fully lined and the pants lay nicely and are very comfortable. It does have elastic in the back, but it also has belt loops so you can cover that up.

Of course it came wrinkled, but I have to say that the wrinkles came out easily with my streamer (which isn’t always the case!) it does come in other colors if red isn’t for you, but I think you’d like it!

Let’s add some calm, peaceful and serene shades of blue to beat the winter blues! Blue always makes you feel better.

One of the best things about blue is that anyone can wear it! There are so many shades that there is pretty much one for every skin tone. Blue, especially navy, is also a great alternative to black for this time of year. It’s a little more upbeat and can be paired with so many other colors. You probably already have blue in your closet, but there’s always room for one more shade! I’ve got you covered with five different choices to pick from right here.

Black and tan has always been one of my Fabio color combinations. I think it’s perfect for this time of year because it’s one way to switch up your all-black outfits while adding some contrast. It still has a fall/winter feel, but it just seems a little lighter.
If you want a great Valentine’s Day outfit, the time to shop is now. Right now there are lots of choices available, but as we move closer to the day, it might not be so! (I made sure all the main pieces in my outfits were still available before posting.)

There are so many ways to dress for Valentine’s or Galentine’s Day. I put together more casual type looks and kept them pretty simple, yet traditional. If you want all pink and hearts, I’ve got you covered, If you want it as subtle as possible, just wearing accessories, I’ve got you covered there too! Whether you like these looks or would prefer something different, I still recommend that you shop soon!

Are you shopping the after-Christmas sales for a new puffer coat? I have some ideas for you on how to pick the best one!

This fall I provided my thoughts on how to pick the best lightweight puffer jacket on stylecaster.com. As you've seen in previous posts, I have a "little coat problem" so it wasn't too hard for me to make recommendations on how to select the best one.

Here are my thoughts:

✨️. For me, the most important quality to look for is if it can withstand water. There is water-resistant, water-repellent and waterproof. Opt for water-repellent or waterproof. If it's only water-resistant, water will seep through if the jacket gets really wet.

✨️ Does it have a removable hood? A hood can add bulk to a jacket on the days you don't need it. But you still want it to be available on the days that you do.

✨️ I would add a stand-up collar for warmth. With funnel necks being so on-trend this season, it's an easy way to add style and warmth to your look.

My jacket is sold out but I’ve included some similar options!

As a stylist, I think it's important to shop (or at least window shop) in almost every store. Clients have different needs, styles and especially budgets, so I like to stay up-to-date on the offerings from a variety of stores.

So, for this post, I am focusing on an easy one: @targetstyle. Is there anyone out there who hasn't shopped for clothes at Target? Their pieces are both on-trend, attractive and affordable!

But what they are not, for me, is a one-season option. I purposely put together this outfit to show a blend of something new (the dress) and two pieces that I've had for literally years - my necklace and handbag. Both have stood the test of time and I can see me wearing them for quite some time yet.

I see the dress the same way. It's new and on-trend (stripes will be huge this spring) but it's a classic at the same time. So, if you're looking for an easy, go-to outfit, I always recommend checking out Target.

These will be my go-looks this month!

When I think of January, I think of cozy, of course, but I also think of bold and bright colors to keep away the winter blues. The weather may be dreary but our outfits don’t have to be.

As you’ve probably heard, burgundy has been the “it” color of fall and it’s expected to stay that way through spring. It’s a great color and it’s one that almost everyone looks good in. So I’ll be wearing that in a variety of pieces, including with dresses and tall boots.

Black is a winter staple, but I plan to keep it bright by pairing it with jackets with gold accents and adding a bag in a bright color. On the opposite of the spectrum, is there anything prettier than a monochrome winter white outfit? Consider adding a piece in faux fur too.

I’m rounding my looks out with the soft and cozy. I love wearing sweaters in winter in pastel colors, especially this yellow. It says “spring is coming” to me. The same for my fleece pieces. I try to stay away from dark colors and keep it bright and cheery.

I’ve always romanticized sitting around a cozy fire in a ski lodge…even though I don’t ski. But I can still love a great fair isle sweater!

As we move into January, I just love this look. It’s still a little bit festive but it has a cozy feeling as well. There are so many different colors and patterns to pick from that you could wear a new sweater all month long - not that I recommend that!

Are you ready for “Mocha Mousse”?

Mocha Mousse was selected as Pantone’s 2025 Color of the Year for its “evocative nature and warmth” as quoted from an article in TIME Magazine.

Selecting the color of the year is not random as TIME explains: “The Pantone Color of the Year program started as a way to engage consumers around how ‘what's taking place in the world is expressed into the silent language of color,’ Pantone Color Institute Vice President Laurie Pressman told TIME. The color chosen is a reflection of the current needs of the world as opposed to a forecast of what’s on trend. With all the political turmoil in the world, Mocha Mousse was picked as a color that reflects the need for harmony.

So, how does that affect your wardrobe? If this is a color that speaks to you, you’re going to find it in lots of different wardrobe pieces. I have found in the past that you will find some pieces initially and as the year goes on, you will find even more. These are some of the “early adopter” pieces I found for myself.

What’s nice about Mocha Mousse is that it’s a color that can be worn all year long. You can wear it now in sweaters, pants and tops or it will blend perfectly with white linen in just a few months.
