As with most of Shari Lapena’s domestic thrillers, I ate this one up!

You name it, this one has it—dramatic people making terrible decisions, sociopaths, lies, blackmail, secrets, people from the past, and a diabolical gold digger. Was it ridiculous at times? Yes! Was it entertaining? Very!

I finished it in under 24 hours because I couldn’t wait to find out what happened. By the time I got to the 85% mark, I didn’t stop until I was finished. I do wish the ending didn’t leave us wondering who did what, but I suppose that’s the allure of it. Even with it being somewhat “open-ended,” it was done really well.

If you enjoy a domestic thriller, check this one out!

I did correctly guess one of the twists, but another one shocked me so much that I gasped out loud.

The book is written entirely in third person and the audiobook is read by one narrator. The narrator was fantastic and kept me engaged. However, nothing would be missed by foregoing the audiobook to read in print.

Thriller Book Recommendation: Kill for Me, Kill for You - Steve Cavanagh

I'm late to the party on this one, but let me just say--it totally lived up to the hype! I LOVED IT!

"Kill for Me, Kill for You" has an official place on my "all-time favorite books" list.

If you are in a reading slump, this is the book to drag you out of the darkness! I couldn't put it down.

This is one of the most fast-paced books I've listened to this year. The story follows several different characters and storylines, but they are all weaved together seamlessly making it very easy to follow and keep up with everyone. There are certain things that only worked because the right people were at the right places at the right time, but it didn't take away from the story or bother me enough to not claim this as one of my favorite books of 2024.

I saw a lot of people say they guessed the twist. I guessed the main one literally one sentence before it was revealed. There were others sprinkled in that I never saw coming and a lot of shocking moments as well. I loved every bit of it!

Thriller Book Recommendation: Invisible by James Patterson & David Ellis

𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙧𝙖𝙢𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨:
I signed right on up for “Invisible” once I saw David Ellis was onboard. If you haven’t read my review for “Look Closer,” just know that it is 6-stars for me.

This is the first book of the “Invisible” series. Currently there are only two books. The second book is “Unsolved.”

I finished this in one day. What can I say? I love a good ol FBI investigation into a serial killer. Few things beat that trope for me.

The story is told from two perspectives: a FBI research analyst perusing the serial killer that murdered her sister and the actual serial killer. The alternating perspectives kept things moving along. The serial killer’s perspective was done in a very interesting way—through “tapes” of confessions and ramblings.

For such a complex story, I didn’t find a lot of faults. The only thing I didn’t care for about the book was the MC. I normally love a strong-female lead, but our girl Emmy was irrational and selfish most of the time and had me saying, “good gravy, Emmy!” about 5 times as if she was real and could hear me. I digress.

Do check trigger warnings because things got dark there for a hot minute.

𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙬𝙞𝙨𝙩 (𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦):
Fantastic twist! I knew something was amiss, but I never could put my finger exactly on it. There were very few clues leading up to it which made it that much more gasp-worthy.

I normally steer clear of books that dabble in “horror,” but when @dr.bookbabe takes time to message me to listen to a specific book, I listen.

Bookstagram seems pretty divided on this one. I have seen some people DNF it. Some have rated it very low, and others rave about it. I personally fall into the camp of people that loved it. Sure, it has its faults. I’m not crazy about anything with paranormal elements (especially evil stuff), but I really enjoyed this novel. If I wasn’t such a chicken, I would’ve finished it in less than 24 hours. But I am a chicken, so it took me a few days because I only listened when my husband was home.

I can’t believe it is a debut novel! The story is gripping. The MC is very unreliable and doesn’t always make the best decisions. I was hooked and constantly holding my breath to find out what happened next. The author did an amazing job at creating the creepiest setting and making the reader question what is real.

I have to give this 5-stars solely based on the fact that I will be thinking about this book for a long time. I actually plan on purchasing the physical copy and rereading it to see anything I missed (also as a trophy).

𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙬𝙞𝙨𝙩 (𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦):
My jaw was on the floor the entire book. Everything shocked me. I sat in silence for a good 5-minutes contemplating life when I was finished. Now that a few days have passed, I have a better grip on what happened. Needless to say, I was gaping out loud, clutching my pears, and holding on for dear life.

𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙖𝙪𝙙𝙞𝙤𝙗𝙤𝙤𝙠:
I don’t always love single narrator audiobooks (technically this has two), but this narrator was phenomenal. I felt like I was right there in the book with my heart pounding the entire time. There are various news articles and other materials referenced throughout the book. This was read by a second narrator in “newscaster” style, which really added to the overall creepy feel.

I have been waiting for this book to come available with my library for MONTHS! When it finally was ready to be checked out, I was nervous to start it because I was afraid I had built it up so much in my mind that I would be disappointed.

I WASN’T DISAPPOINTED AT ALL!

“Tell No One” is one of my favorite books of 2024. It is my first Coben novel and makes me want to check out his entire backlog.

I was HOOKED from the start and had a hard time putting it down. The plot is fast paced with secrets being revealed at every turn. This novel had some standout characters that I really loved that brought something extra to the storyline. I don’t want to say who they are because I don’t want to spoil anything.

This is the perfect novel for someone looking to get into the thriller genre or the seasoned reader that needs to get out of a slump.

𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙬𝙞𝙨𝙩 (𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦):
I couldn’t give the twists a full 5-star rating just because I guessed the biggest one. There were a few others I guessed but a couple that I didn’t. Even if I had guessed all of them, I would’ve still enjoyed the ride.

𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙖𝙪𝙙𝙞𝙤𝙗𝙤𝙤𝙠:
The thing about “Tell No One” is that there are some chapters told in third person and others told in first person from our MC. I don’t always love that switch up. I can deal with it better when there are different narrators for the first person and third person parts. That wasn’t the case here. The narrator did a fine job, but there was a missed opportunity for a better production. Nothing would be lost if you passed on the audiobook for print.

Years before the hit tv show You was put on Netflix, I sat glued to my Kindle for days reading You and Hidden Bodies. I’m not sure how the series came to be on my radar back then, but I knew by the third chapter of the first book, You would hold a special spot on my favorites list.

I equate the comfort of reading about my favorite hopeless romantic and serial killer Joe Goldberg to the same familiar feeling I have when rewatching my comfort shows. If Ms. Kepnes writes a book in Joe Goldberg’s world, I will read it.

Do I know that Joe is always going to love someone… perhaps to death? Yes. Do I know this man will always be a love bomber stuck in limerence until he’s not? Also, yes. But it is my guilty pleasure. The formula checks all of my boxes.

I was hesitant to watch the show when it came out because I’m usually too critical on adaptations to enjoy them. Not this one. I loved seeing the characters come to life. The show doesn’t closely follow the books, but several of the same characters are used. The books and show are different enough that it’s like getting a picture of what could happen for Joe in an alternate universe. I say this to say that if you’ve watched the show and loved it, you should still check these books out. I dare say you’d enjoy them more knowing how things might’ve been for the ultimate lover of love, Joe.
