Building a kids’ room that grows with them doesn’t have to mean buying new furniture every few years — it can mean buying the right furniture once. These IKEA malm dressers (discontinued but reselected below) have been in my son’s room since he was two. The bookcases came later. Next up: a desk between them that will make the whole wall look completely built-in.

Don’t replace your sofa… yet.

If your couch cushions are starting to sink, try this first.

Slide a memory foam mattress topper inside the cushions. It adds structure and support and can bring tired cushions back to life without the cost of a new sofa.

I tried this in my own home four years ago, and the cushions are still holding up.

One tip: not all mattress toppers work well for this hack. The thickness and size make a big difference depending on your sofa.
