WE’RE SOOOO CLOSE!! The day after tomorrow Luca starts his last round of treatment! Based on how his last few rounds have gone we anticipate it will be about 2 weeks inpatient and then he’ll be home for good!! 🥳 About a week or two after being home, Luca will go in for his last procedure, he’ll get his line taken out and in its place he’ll have his port put in. We are going this route because Luca is an incredibly difficult stick. He has tiny rolling veins and a lot of chub ☺️ after treatment we get labs once a month for a year, then every two moths the following year and so on. With this being the case a port makes the most sense for that first year and then we’ll reevaluate. It’s under his skin and doesn’t impact his life (infection risk is also lower with it), he can take baths and go in the pool, and will make lab draws way less traumatic for him (most of his medical trauma is from lab draws 😔). We won’t be doing another bone marrow biopsy because based on all his labs his bone marrow is functioning beautifully, it would just be for us to see and I have zero concerns and would rather not put him through another thing. He has been doing so amazing well, it’s been so sweet to have him home these last nine days, we have had the best family time. This next one feels more temporary, like a small blip in the scheme of things, another checked box, and the final one! So thankful for this sweet, lovable chunk of mine 🥰 God is good.
