I know I always say that the looks in these capsules are truly brought together by the accessories, but that has never been more true than throughout Desert Dust.

This dress has made appearances in a few of my capsules now, and it continues to surprise me with just how versatile it is. At first glance, it feels like such a statement piece but I’ve been able to style it so many different ways (and have even more ideas up my sleeve 👀). It’s the perfect reminder that accessories truly make the outfit.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about the difference between wearing and styling. Some people interpret styling as manipulating or changing a piece, but to me, it’s about how you use the accessories - the bag, the shoes, the hat, the jewelry - to shape the story your outfit tells. My background in costume design taught me that it’s those little details that give meaning, turning a great garment into a full expression of self.

While taking some of the photos for the series, I was in an area where lots of families were getting their family portraits done, I assume for holiday cards, and every single one of them was wearing beige. Just entire families wearing pretty much only beige. Maybe a little bit of Grayish green, but those were literally the only colors represented until I arrived. It was so hilarious to me because we obviously wanted very different things from our photo sessions! Haha

This one’s an outfit repeat -and one of your favorites from last year - so of course I had to bring it back! The top is a thrifted vintage Bob Mackie (such a fun find!), and I’ve linked a couple available online. It also came in other colors and there are still some floating around online. The skirt is actually from Amazon. I rarely shop there, but I had a gift card and couldn’t find a fringe skirt in this color anywhere else. Now there are more options out there, so I’ll link a few, but this one’s a super fun + affordable way to dip a toe into fringe. It’s really comfy too!

Retro, floral and fabulous.

I find most of the styles to run a bit small. I can wear my usual size but it runs tighter than from other brands that I wear frequently. This is common for me and boutique brands - they just run a bit shorter and tighter - so if you are tall (like me!) or if you have a larger bust or broad shoulders you may want to size up in these.
