I’m often surprised to hear that people find me to be very feminine. Maybe it’s mannerisms? Maybe the bright colors? But I have always felt too masculine to really be a feminine person. Paradoxically I always felt too feminine to truly be a tomboy either. Gender is complex and beautiful and I’m glad that fashion always me to express myself in the most genuine way that I know how.

Nothing says “springtime” quite like gingham! Back in the day I didn’t wear a lot of gingham because it thought it felt old-timey in a way that just didn’t vibe with my style, but I was wrong - and I’m glad I’ve come around to it, because it’s a gorgeous pattern!

This set comes from one of my favorite places to buy pieces that are more tailored. Being pretty tall, there is no substitute for finding items with proportions that work from the beginning. Of course you can always get alterations, but something that is based on a shorter or petite fit model is always going to look less than perfect in my opinion. I love that these items fit me off the rack, because while I seem like someone that would get their clothes altered, and think that it’s a fabulous thing to do, I really struggle with follow through on tasks like that! 🤷🏼‍♀️

I used to look at dresses like this on fashion bloggers that I admired and loved the look, but genuinely thought that it wasn’t for me. Some of the barrier was the price. I was young, an actor working multiple jobs, and not very savvy about where to buy clothing. The other element of the barrier was that I just couldn’t see myself “fitting in” or being the kind of person who wore designer fashion. Luckily we can reinvent ourselves many times over and I am always open to expanding the definition of who I am.
