I love reshaping my curly hair clients, but I need to address something…

You’re, in fact, seeing this correctly, I am NOT using a comb in my client’s hair.

And you won’t see me doing that in really any of my other videos either.

I don’t like using a comb on curly hair because it not only makes the hair too tight so too much hair will come off after taking scissors to it, but it also frizzes up the curls so I can’t find what those natural patterns will do and where they’ll sit after cutting.

9 times out of 10 a comb will DISRUPT a curly hair cut.

Although I use combs every now and then, I plan to leave them out of the majority of curly hair cuts.

Coming from a curly hair expert… Layering is NON-NEGOTIABLE for real curl definition and movement ‼️

Layers create lift, movement, and definition, and without them everything is going to sit super heavy and their natural texture will never get a chance to shine.

So if you want to see your clients LOVE their naturally curly or wavy hair… you HAVE to add layers!

I was SO confused when this client came in.

But trust me when I say looks can be deceiving! As soon as I began working with her hair, I KNEW the potential her hair had. Curly hair comes in so many different textures and this one is one that I’m very familiar with as my curly (yes, CURLY) hair dries super similarly!

Texture is texture and when I say the curls delivered 🤌 My gosh.

This just proves that curls can behave VERY differently without the proper tools… and by tools I mean products.

PSA: A regular haircut will NOT do the same thing as a curly hair cut!!

This client came in with a perfectly good hair cut. But the thing is, it did absolutely nothing for her hair shape or curls but weigh them down.

This is why it’s so important to see a stylist who is not only familiar with your hair type, but knows how to make it look its best and help you learn how to maintain it!

On a side note, I’m so jealous of the short curly hair people out here. If your hair has texture, please don’t shy away from wearing it short when that could be the key to easier maintenance!
