PACKING WITH KIDS ✈️✨

Involve the kids: Let them choose outfits (within limitations) and pack a small personal bag with their favorite toys, books, and electronics. Encourage them to take ownership of their belongings. Avoid packing too many new or never-worn items; the last thing you want to do is pack something they won’t like or refuse to wear.

Create a packing list: Create a detailed list categorized by age group and activity (e.g., swim clothes, hiking gear). Anything that I know cannot be packed until 24 hours before we leave, I make a separate list to check when we are on our way out the door.

When you work with @meltedandmoved on a custom travel itinerary, you will receive a day-by-day itinerary that includes pre-booked activities as well as suggestions for your free time. Review the app or print the pdf of your trip while selecting outfits for each day to ensure you are comfortable based on your schedule. Personally, I lay out each child’s outfit and photograph it before saving it to an album labeled “Packing” on my phone. This way, when we arrive at our destination, I can check my phone to see what I want each of us to wear before digging through our luggage.

Essentials I’m never traveling without are my @calpak packing cubes. For kids, grouping full outfits together makes unpacking and laying out their outfits so much easier.

Plus, did you know @away luggage has a lifetime warranty? If you travel often, then expect a little suitcase damage and they’ll replace wheels, zippers, etc.

Don’t forget!! A change of clothes for everyone always goes in the carry-on.

Flying with kids: medicine

I’ll never get on a flight again without Tylenol after my 2 year old spiked a fever mid flight. Ps- bring the extra syringes - the medicine is pretty useless if you loose those. I’ve also linked all the preventative vitamins and options to keep them healthy before the trip. Also, they get pretty excited about a new water bottle so this is an easy way to keep them a little more hydrated.

Boogie wipes are very gentle and a life saver for the baby years. My toddler loves a colorful bandaid and tide wipes need no explanation.

My favorite MUST HAVE entertainment when flying with kids.

My 4 year old loves having her own headphones and you will be happy you bought the kids one versus helping keep the adult size on their heads and adjusting for them throughout the flight. The gem stickers were great for the flight and dinners (we let her decorate her water bottle) and the magna-tiles are easy to clean and the kids have yet to get tired of them.

Toddler Plane Entertainment

The Goodnight book series covers several destinations and is a great way to get kids excited and invested in the trip. The airport sticker book is like an active game of eye spy for each stage of the airport. The travel journal is great for older kids who are ready to record the highs/lows of the trip from their perspective.

I focus on easily cleaned items as you know they will end up on the ground at some point. Painters tape is such a great item to place on the plane tray table and make a game out of it- with no mess.
