I refuse to give into trends, I refuse to get influenced by everything on social media. But that did not happen overnight. Did both, made mistakes, wasted money and only then realised how important it is to stay true to your own vision and believe in the end product even when no one else does.

Our design choices might not resonate with everyone, might not be glamorous enough, might not be Pinterest worthy, but they work beautifully for us.

@onesqftatime is not to influence but to inspire those who share a similar vision as I do. One message, one reshare, one story is all it takes to make my day, that this little account was able to resonate with someone and make their decision process a tad easier!

2024 Recap - Transformation Series # 1

Kitchen Makeover

The kitchen before renovation ended right where the island starts. We added ~ 500 sqft to transform this space into an open concept dining and kitchen.

At the time we got the house, we could see the potential but we were also aware that it would mean sacrificing on our backyard space.

We worked with @decorilla and @demetracabinetry to design this space! Glad how it turned out!

Building a custom home is all about creating the perfect living space, both inside and out. However, it’s not uncommon to go over budget.

Prioritizing projects that can be postponed until later can help you stay within your budget. Here are some projects that can be postponed until after you move in:

1.     Landscaping: While it’s nice to have a well-manicured lawn and beautiful landscaping, by prioritizing your budget towards essential living spaces, you can create the home of your dreams without breaking the bank. Plus, when the time comes, you can work with a professional landscaper to create the perfect outdoor oasis!

2.     Swimming pool and outdoor living spaces: Building a swimming pool and outdoor living spaces can be expensive and time-consuming. These require a lot of thought process and planning. You don’t want to rush in with this decision.

3.     Finished basement and additional rooms: Consider postponing the construction of additional rooms such as a home theater/home gym/office and focus on finishing the essential living spaces first.

4.     Custom cabinetry: Custom cabinetry can be a significant expense. Stick with standard cabinetry for now. Take your time and decide the layout you want. May be DIY later too!

5.     Smart home technology: Smart home technology can be convenient, but it can also be expensive. Focus on essential systems such as heating and cooling.

6.     Custom lighting: Custom lighting fixtures can be beautiful, but they can also be costly. The difference could be thousands of dollars.

Starting 2025 the right way!

We did not enough space for a jacuzzi tub in our primary bath and hence went for a freestanding tub. Found this amazing Conair Jet Hydro Spa which creates nice ripples in the water with the perfect pressure for massage. I would add two - one on each side of the tub.

Loved having a relaxing spa to kick off 2025!

My daughter and I started having chia seed pudding for breakfast and she loved adding the seeds along with the fruits. We improvised the recipe and I realised that not only did it give us more quality time together but also made meal times less stressful.

These 8.5 oz borosilicate jars from Amazon are airtight and having them right on the countertop serves as a daily reminder to eat the seeds. The lazy susan tray is from @target.
