The first bathroom that we completely gutted and renovated all by ourselves. Scroll 👉🏻 to see the before pics. What started with a random leak that we couldn’t figure out… ended up turning into a whole new bathroom for our boys. 😅 This was one of the first projects that we shared on Instagram 4 years ago!

I love how this DIY vanity turned out thanks to Eric and my father-in-law. That rough sawn oak with the dark gray concrete top.😍 I also love that we could turn our single vanity into a double… which makes tooth brushing so much easier for the boys.

Something that I always recommend for bathroom renovations is to add recessed lighting. It was clearly way too dark before, but just adding two simple can lights really brightened it up. Good lighting is so important when we are getting ready, right? 😉

We recently got a smaller table for our eat-in kitchen to free up space for the new console table…. Which we got to hide our microwave.🙌🏻 (For those that don’t know, we had a microwave above our range, but recently removed it and built a hood) It’s also been nice to have a little spot for my keurig, too. (Coffee addict here) We will be making one last change to this space soon… involving the shelves, but so far I’m really happy with all of the changes.

I can’t believe the summer is almost over. Did you go on any vacations? If so, where? We just got back from a trip to Chincoteague Island, VA… one of our favorite spots. It was so nice to get a little beach time with the fam.

Sharing our family room which was painted this past spring. I was so scared to paint these walls white. I thought about it for years before finally pulling the trigger, but I have no regrets! Love it so much!! I’m also really happy with the board and batten color. It adds just enough contrast to make it pop.

Thanks so much for the positive feedback on the treehouse… we really appreciate it!

Last year at this time, we were chipping away at this budget-friendly owners bath remodel. To save time and money, we decided to leave the existing footprint but give it a cosmetic facelift. We were able to give this red oak vanity new life by sanding it down, installing 6 inch legs, and a new countertop.

I’m still obsessed with the shiplap paint color. It’s Farrow and Ball Down Pipe at 50% lighter. I’d love to use it somewhere else in our house. The other walls are Sherwin Williams Snowbound… my go-to white these days.

Hi!! I’m back after a much needed hiatus from Instagram and house projects. (Did you even notice?😉)

I think we can all agree that this past year wasn’t easy and has taken a toll on so many people. I could definitely sense that negativity here on IG, especially in my private messages, which was making the app less appealing to me. Not to mention, I was a little burnt out from all of the projects. Anyway, it felt so good to focus on my family without that noise and without thinking about our house or the changes we want to make.

With that said, I still love doing projects and transforming spaces. I will never stop loving design and I will continue to pursue that, just with a little more balance in my life. Will that affect the algorithm or my engagement on here? Probably, and that’s ok. Life is so much more than that.

Follow along in stories as I make some subtle changes to our kitchen… replacing some of the cabinet doors, repainting the cabinets (for the 3rd time😜), and replacing the hardware.

Speaking of our boys, this is their bathroom which we renovated back in 2017. Hard to believe that it’s been that long! Was anyone around back then? I love that we were able to convert it from a single vanity to a double. And, we saved so much money building this vanity and pouring the concrete countertop ourselves… despite how challenging the concrete was!

Range hood is finally done!🙌🏻 Swipe to see the evolution of our kitchen over the past 8 years.

As far as the hood, it is plaster with red oak trim. The plaster is painted SW Snowbound and the wood is stained to match our barn door and new kitchen table (custom mix of 3 stains). The new hood functions the same as the microwave in that it has a ductless blower and a light underneath. I’ll link it on LIKEtoKNOW.it if you’re interested. And if you’re wondering about the microwave.. we bought a tiny one and it’s hidden in our new sideboard. 😉

Next up… new upper cabinet doors (to match the bottom), fresh cabinet paint (to match walls, hood, and island) and new brass hardware. 😬 What do you think so far?? Would you ever hide it your microwave, or ditch it all together?

One of my favorite DIYs was this electric fireplace. I love how it transformed this empty wall. (Swipe to see before) The nice thing about electric is that you can turn on the flames with or without any heat blowing out... so you can use it all year!

It’s officially on the calendar... we are having this room painted next month. 😬 (ceiling is too high for us to do ourselves) We have loved this color (BM Rockport Gray), but after 7 years we are ready for a change. Now to decide on a color. I keep going back and forth between white or a light greige (grey + beige). I’m even considering repainting that molding too, depending on which route I go. Thoughts?!? Favorite paint colors?? Obviously I need to get this right the first time (since we are hiring it out) unlike my living room which took 3 shades of white to get right.🙈

Another day of painting baseboards.. can’t wait to get caught up so we can start the next project. 😜 The question is, are we ever done with our homes? Thanks for all of the sleepover tips, it went so well that we are doing it again next weekend for our youngest.😜 Both of our boys have March birthdays so it’s been a crazy, but fun month.

One of my favorite things about this room (or rooms) is all of the natural light and sunshine. ☀️ I don’t always photograph it like this because the shadows get crazy, but it makes me happy so I thought I would. Does anyone else wake up and immediately open all of the blinds and curtains? I need the light..I feel depressed if it’s dark.

Question.. do you prefer carpet or hard flooring in your bedroom?

When discussing this in stories, I noticed a theme that people who live in colder areas seem to prefer carpet. We also like it for sound reasons as well. But replacing carpet in your home when it’s furnished and full of stuff is no joke. We recently got new carpet in our son’s bedroom and this room (guest room), and it was exhausting to take everything apart, move it out, and then move it all back in again. And.. we are about to do it again with the remaining two rooms. Wish us luck.😅💪🏼 If you can do it before you move in, I highly recommend.

How old were you when you bought your first home?? I was 21 and Eric was 26. It was a tiny outdated house, but we were so excited. We totally redid the house and sold it two years later, and that’s what sparked our love for renovation and design.

If you haven’t noticed already, I’m always moving things around. Do you do that? Many times just moving things, instead of spending money on new stuff, can give you the change that you crave. This coffee table has been in our basement for a while, but prior to that was in our family room (our other living space). I also moved this floor lamp in here from our family room. The side table is on loan from the guest room (I figure I can move it back when we have guests😉). I encourage you to go move some stuff around and create a new fresh look in your home.

Swipe to see the before of this space (right before we moved in.) We did replace the countertop and flooring, but it’s the same vanity, bead board, and even mirror (which we cut down and framed). We’ve been wanting to replace the flooring (again) since the wood looking tile meets up with our new real wood floors and looks weird. What kind of tile do you think would look best in here?!? I can’t decide.

8 year old vs 4 year old bedroom. Has anyone else noticed that their kids have matured significantly from age 8 to age 9? Or just mine? I’m not sure if it’s due to the crazy year we had, but he’s grown up so much and this room is a reflection of that. 😭

Where do you like to display family pics in your home? I love to hang them in hallways, landings, bedrooms, and basements. But really a nice gallery wall can look great anywhere! In this hallway, we have our family pic in the middle with pics of our parents on both sides. Our parents live 10 hours away, so it’s comforting to see their faces on our walls. ❤️ Anyone else live far from family?
