Combining all the dark and moodiness of a whiskey bar with a Chicago monster hangout

Windows updated with no drill blinds. We love them 🖤 they are sheer(ish) and take about 5 minutes to put in. We love them!

The trim and the inside trim are all painted Iron Ore by @sherwinwilliams - love it!

These sconces? They are rechargeable! They can be changed to multiple colors and easy to install. Perfect for the brick wall 🖤

Such a pretty look with a view!

This medallion was white and urethane so it was a better price and much cheaper. We got it from @homedepot and painted it in the Iron Ore with gold paint brushed.

The chandelier?! #capitallighting love love love 🖤

What a difference than her original purple wallpaper. A few more things to do and refinish the floors.

We installed one light in the parlor…
and suddenly I’m like…

✨ THIS IS A WHOLE VIBE ✨

Meanwhile…
the toilet needs a tablet, the house is still half torn apart, and I’m over here arranging books like I’m in a magazine.

This is what restoring an 1860 home looks like:

A little progress
A little chaos
A lot of “wait… I love this so much”

And honestly?
I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

(Okay maybe for running water on demand… but still 😅)

This room was purple. The plaster ceilings were crumbling. The smell? OHMYGOSH bad 🤢

Now? Beautiful windows and view. Cozy. Dark and moody. We have more to do, but it’s perfect for now 🖤

I know. I say every room is the biggest transformation 😂

But this one? Purple walls and floors. Old knob and tube wiring. A door into the main bedroom (weird). A little bitty closet. A tiny light.

Now it’s dark and moody. Screaming saloon or parlor. Saying come spend some time 🥃

Not all of our rooms are dark and moody.

This sitting room? Bright. Warm. Sun-soaked.
The kind of space that reminds you an 1860 home can be dramatic and happy at the same time.

I love the contrast. Moody parlors for late nights, light-filled rooms for slow mornings, old windows doing what they’ve done for 160+ years: showing off.

Parlor update.

Cabinets are officially to the ceiling. A 75” TV is on the wall - in the right place 🙄. The bar is taking shape. Brick walls everywhere, with Iron Ore paint by @sherwinwilliams on the ceiling and one wall to keep it dark, moody, and intentional. IKEA cabinets - I can’t link. Reach out if you want details!

This room is becoming what it was meant to be, a dark brick parlor built for long days, late nights, good drinks, loud laughter, and even better company.

Old house. Strong bones. Built to gather people.

Still a work in progress, but you can feel it now.

When the 75” TV technically fits… but spiritually does not. 😅

Mounted it. Stared at it. Realized it was WAY too low and made our historic parlor look… confused.
Old house restoration is truly just ✨trial and error✨ in real time.

BUT… today’s win? The 12-foot built-in looking cabinets are going in, and that glow-up is about to redeem us.

Anyone else mount something, immediately hate it, and pretend it was “part of the plan”?
