DIY

By Prettyhome_with_clausi

Everything that the DIYer needs or wants.

If power tools intimidate you, I got you… Start here 👇

An orbital sander is honestly one of the easiest tools to use, and once you try it, you’ll wonder why you waited so long.

The biggest mistakes I see?
Pressing too hard, staying in one spot, and skipping grits.

Keep it light, keep it moving, and let the tool do the work. You’ll get that smooth, professional finish every time.

If you’ve been scared to try sanding furniture, this is your sign… you can 100% do this 🙌

Next: circular saw (don’t skip this one)

If a circular saw has ever made you nervous… this one’s for you!

This is part of my beginner tool series where I break things down in a way that actually makes sense, especially if you’ve never used tools before.

A circular saw looks intimidating at first, but once you understand a few basics like how to hold it, adjust it, and line it up, it starts to feel a lot more manageable.

A few things to keep in mind:
• More teeth in a blade means smoother cuts
• Set the blade just a little past the wood
•.Use the guide lines to stay on track
And don’t forget you need to press both buttons to start it

Also there’s something called a rip guide that helps with longer straight cuts, but I’ll show you that in another video.

You don’t need to be strong to use tools, you just need to know what you’re doing.

Next is the drill and you’re going to use that one all the time so come back for it!

If you’ve been putting off adding molding because the cuts feel overwhelming… this is your sign.

These miter shears make your cuts clean, fast, and beginner-friendly especially if you’re using chair molding trim. No dragging out the big saw. No intimidating setup. Just measure, cut, install.

Comment “EASY” and I’ll send you the link for the shears.

If I had to start over with DIY as a beginner, I would NOT buy random tools just because they’re on sale.

I’d start with these 5 and learn them well.

I’ve created SO much with just these tools: trim projects, furniture flips, wall molding, frames… you really don’t need a giant workshop to start making your home pretty.

You don’t have to wait for someone else to fix things in your home. A lot of the projects I’ve done started with me not knowing exactly what I was doing… just being willing to try.

Little by little you learn, you gain confidence, and before you know it you’re doing things you never thought you could.

DIY isn’t about being perfect. It’s about creating a home you love with your own hands.

And the best part? Your home starts looking amazing because of it.

If you want simple, real DIY tips you can actually do, follow along. ✨

You don’t need all the fancy tools to start DIYing, you just need the right ones.

These 5 are the best power tools for diy. I’ve done majority of my projects just with these:

• Orbital sander – this is what makes furniture look smooth and professional instead of “obvious DIY.”
• Circular saw + cutting jig (not necessary but encouraged to have) – lets you cut down plywood at home without needing a huge workshop.
• Drill or impact driver – you’ll use this on almost every single project.
• Brad nailer – attaches trim, small builds, and molding fast (and clean).
• Miter saw – for clean trim cuts, frames, and molding.

You don’t need a garage full of tools to start.
You need the right foundation.

Tip: if you buy the same brand you can interchange the batteries.

I know power tools can feel intimidating at first, but I promise, they don’t have to be.

I did all the box molding and shiplap around my house using only two tools: a brad nailer and a miter saw, (well three if you count the caulk gun) and I started exactly where you might be right now.

I’ll be breaking down how to use these tools with confidence, step by step, so you can stop waiting and start creating the home you’ve been dreaming of 🫶

If a prettier, cozy home is on your vision board of 2026… you’re in the right place.

Follow along and let’s do this together 💚

✨Tip: These two tools are honestly must-haves if you want to start DIYing.

Using glue on box molding trim might feel like the “extra secure” option, but it actually causes more damage than good. When it’s time to remove or change it, glue can:
	•	Tear drywall paper
	•	Pull chunks of wall with it
	•	Turn a simple update into a full wall repair 😩

The good news? You don’t need it.

Brad nails + caulk are enough.
✔️ Holds the trim securely
✔️ Looks clean and professional
✔️ Way easier to remove in the future

A dust mask is a must when sanding. And this one is light, breathable and washable. You can replace the filters too.

Getting the best lasting results when painting cabinets consists of using the right products, like a furniture paint, velour paint roller, primer and a clear top coat.
