If rayon leaves you confused and disappointed, stop by a Madewell so you can touch what I recommend to avoid. Their rayon dresses are coarse and feel loosely woven. The prices are about double Zara’s, and Zara has better quality rayon: smoother and more densely woven.

There are further concerns such as labor practices and environmental implications, and each garment needs to be evaluated so it suits your requirements. I can only speak of fabric quality, which ultimately promotes longer wear, which is what we all want.

Have you found anything good at a fast fashion/designer collab? I gotta admit I’m really weary of these collabs. The duds in this collab are really blatantly unappealing, and I was convinced there’s nothing to see here.

But then I really drilled down for this video and did find a few pieces worth your browse, at the very least.

The dresses look so good. In the Victoria Beckham line, similar-looking dresses are about $1,000 - $2,390 – but the materials are also upgraded from viscose (Mango) to silk (the $2,390 dress).

Have you noticed more tie back dresses this spring?

Spring is the season for dresses and also the season for dressmaking shortcuts.

The tie back waist cuts back on production costs and makes a dress seem to fit a wider variety of body shapes.

But it looks like a shortcut. When compared to the fitted front, it’s sloppy. The fabric underneath it doesn’t distribute evenly.

Sometimes you don’t want the formality of precise tailoring, and you do reach for tie waist dresses. They have a specific relaxed vibe.

It doesn’t make sense thematically to combine a tailored front with a tie waist back. It just reads like a method for reducing production costs, not a designer’s deliberate choice.

Sandro offers a lot of options for spring. They have their candy colors and crystals, yes, and also seem to take a Zimmermann-but-more-affordable direction.

When compared to actual Zimmermann, these Sandro pieces are less complex in construction and made in less luxurious fabrics, sometimes dramatically so – note the 100% polyester dress.

Is Zimmermann worth it? I think the question is – for what?

I wasn’t too impressed with their “basics,” but their occasion dresses are really tough to beat. When you compare their going out dresses to others’, their value stands out. The fabrics tend to be natural, where occasion dresses (even high tier) use a lot of synthetics. Their embellishments are ambitious and beautifully executed, and their vibe really imparts a dreamy romance.

Do you get what you pay for with wedding guest dresses? Is more always more?

The silk wrap dresses from Zimmermann is beautifully executed. The satin looks and feels luxe in person.

But the Aritzia dresses offer a sleeker, more low-key take on this concept: they’re matte, and they are less voluminous. To wear them to more formal events, you can add bling.

I’d wear dainty jewelry with the Zimmermann.
