As of today, the price of gold is $85.61 per gram, and sterling silver is $0.9904 per gram. It’s fascinating to compare the price of jewelry from new to preloved, and I appreciate that The Real Real lists the weight in grams for each piece.

1. Hermes’ necklace is 18k gold. J.Crew’s pieces are brass, gold-plated recycled zinc, and cubic zirconia.

2. Both Hermes and Etsy use sterling silver. The Etsy mariner necklaces are come in 4.6mm to 14mm; the Hermès necklace is 10mm wide.

3. The Herakles Knot Ring from The Met Store is 14K gold plate over 925 Sterling silver base. Hermès’ ring is 18k gold.

4. The Hermès bracelet is sterling silver, and Mango is 100% zinc.

5. The Hermès necklace is 18k gold, and Mango uses 85% brass, 8% stainless steel, 5% zinc, 2% acrylic.

I’m always scandalized by makeup tutorials saying to apply concealer in triangles under the eye. The doe foot applicator ends up glopping too much product on the face even when it’s dotted on.

Both camps need to communicate who they are and what they represent. But celebs are more likely to have sponsorships with brands, so that can affect their choices. When a celeb’s own style affects the campaign, I am impressed.

What’s your take on moissanite? Fake diamond or something you like for its own properties? Any questions about moissanites?

The prices are really approachable, especially considering moissanites tend to be set in silver, which is far less costly than gold or platinum.

They’re a great way to try a style before committing to diamonds, and they’re also great for pieces that you wouldn’t want to flaunt in diamonds. I like being able to say that my diamonds are moissanite and more of a fun look than a serious spend.

Prices for lab diamonds are approximate because diamonds vary in cut, color, and clarity. I found prices with 14k gold settings. The moissanite prices are from Etsy.

Here’s how I start my necklace layering: with one grouping.

I create a group of necklaces in a similar length, usually 16” or 40cm.

I prefer an odd number of pieces to even.

I make sure to highlight a focal point or the main piece, so the other necklaces don’t outshine it. If something unexpected turns into the focal point, I check if it’s actually better; is it clear there’s one focal point?

My favorite jewelry pieces from Etsy. I have fallen in love with moissanite. It’s milkier than diamonds, and it has a rainbow throw. It doesn’t look like a dim or a fake diamond. It’s doing its own rainbow dance.
