I just loved this book. End of story. If you come across this one, pick it up.

This book was INTERESTING. These days, I’ve been a bit of a slump, looking for something that is a unique read. This book was a story that follows a Death Row Serial Killer, Ansel Parker, and the last twelve hours of his life, while also telling his story from the eyes of the women throughout his life. If you’re listening to it, like I did, there are a lot of different narrators, so I really needed to “zone-in”. The book is an interesting take on nature v nurture without giving a ton of empathy to a guilty serial killer. Are we solely the choices we make? Are we more than our circumstance? Are there multi-verses, in which our lives could look completely different. Notes on an execution, while not a “must-read”, is the PERFECT book for those True Crime junkies who are a little tired of the worn out murder- mystery, whodunnit, thriller that surely line your shelves.

I’m starting to think that I actually like books with unlikable characters. I enjoyed this book, sure!

In this story, there’s a classic case of a best friendship between a wealthy socialite, Stella, and an ambitious girl from humble beginnings, Violet. Violet has landed a journalism job in NYC, and is dead set on working her way up the ranks. Stella has never really worked a day in her life, but her tune seems to change when she returns from an extended trip abroad to see that her roommate Violet has made quite a life for herself.

That’s when the whole book takes a turn.

Messy relationships, long journalism hours, and the difference in personalities really shine through when Stella lands an anchor job in the spotlight. Violet never wanted to be the center of attention, but what happens when the Rising Star is someone who has always fought to “keep Violet in her place”..

This story had great twists, although the last third of the book was a little unhinged. Something about the way not one of these main characters is likable kept me turning the pages. I read 200 or the 342 pages in one day. This book is somewhere between 3 and 4 stars for me. Seemingly strategic open-ended story lines character development that comes out of nowhere kind of threw me off— I couldn’t tell if it was purposeful or just a lack of attention to detail. But I did devour the book, and that’s something.

The song was picked bc Shawn was convinced that the book cover was an inspiration for Miley Cyrus’s “Plastic Hearts” album. 🤷🏻‍♀️

34 weeks down, 1st pregnancy book completed!

I loved this book! As with all “self-help books”, you take what you want and leave what you don’t, but I certainly enjoyed this take on parenting, and there will definitely be a few tactics that I try to implement during this “Journey Into Motherhood”

It’s a more laissez-faire take on child-rearing, where you treat the baby like an actual person (a concept!) I would recommend 🙏🏻

This was a great beach read! A classic Freida McFadden book where JUST when you think you’ve figured it out, it turns into a page-turner i couldn’t put down with an end I couldn’t predict!

It didn’t have overly complex characters and it was easy enough to follow. I recommend it for a fun travel read; may be best served in cold weather 🥶

Okay, unlike this book, I’ll get straight to the point.. Grace is a hard-working woman who throws a dart at a map each year to choose where she goes on vacation— this time it lands on Dubois, Wyoming. There’s something off about the town, her AirBnb, and everything else that’s going on during her stay… but we have no idea what any of it is until the last 13 percent of the book.

I love a book with turns and twists, but this one felt like the author was procrastinating on deciding on an ending until the very end, which I don’t like. The character development wasn’t great, and the plot was stagnant until everything climaxed and wrapped up. 😩
