Fashion, Beauty and style tips for women over 50!

The sweet spot for your cropped jeans is just above your ankle bone at the smallest part of your ankle. This is the most flattering length and will work with all of your shoes

If they’re too long, you lose the intent of even wearing a cropped jean. If they’re too short, they cut you off and make your legs look short (and is frankly an outdated look).

I’m linking some of my favorite cropped jeans, including my top, belt & shoes!

Instead of a painted on skinny jeans, think about opting for more of a “slim” fit for an updated look. Look for a slightly bigger leg opening that you don’t have to wiggle your feet to get out of 😆. Style with a taller boot and an oversized blazer or jacket

A monochromatic outfit always works. You will always look put together. Every time

#LTKOver40 #LTKStyleTip #LTKVideo
An easy formula for getting dressed is the 3 color rule. Keep your outfit to no more than 3 major colors to keep your outfit from getting too busy. This way you will always look put together!

My sweater and tank are Jcrew, and my jeans are from Joe’s. My leopard bag (which is ahhh-mazing) is by Parker Thatch. I’m linking my jewelry as well! (Unfortunately I can’t link my Sneex here)

I’ve been asked several times where your cropped jeans should hit. The answer: just above your ankle bone at the smallest part of your ankle. It makes your legs look leaner because it’s showing the thinnest part.

BEFORE you cut the jeans, make sure you wash them first because they may shrink some. Then, measure how much you need to cut, and make sure you use a pair of sharp scissors. It doesn’t have to be perfect because they are frayed. And to get the fraying back after cutting, throw them in the wash & dryer!

My top from JCrew is on sale! It’s got a nod to the Wild West with the front pockets, pearl snaps, and yoke in the back.

I love the look of denim on denim, and no the colors don’t have to match. My top is lighter than my jeans, and it still works.

My jeans are by Mother, and I found them at Tuckernuck. They are the dazzler fray cut.

My shoes are old, but I’m linking some that are very similar!

#LTKStyleTip #LTKVideo #LTKOver40
Don’t be afraid to try the denim on denim trend, aka Canadian Tuxedo! It’s so easy to style. The denim shades do not have to match. You can try different shades and different textures. But you can also do matchy matchy with the shade.

Any color shoe and belt will work. And any color bag will work as well.

There are no rules!!

My top from JCrew is on sale, and has a nod to Western wear with the front pockets and pearl snaps.

My Mother jeans are old, so I’m linking similar pairs.

I can’t link the Sneex, but I’m telling you, I LOVE them!!

3 Things to give up/let go in your style journey:

1. Other people’s opinions. Seriously. If you are too afraid to wear something because you’re worried what someone else might think, you need to let go of it. Wear what YOU want and what makes YOU happy. Dress for YOU, not others.

2. Believing that investing in yourself makes you superficial. I’m here to tell you, get over it. If you want to feel good about yourself, invest in yourself. And I’m not saying you have to spend a ton of money. Carve out what you can and treat yourself. It’s worth every penny. My motto: Look good, feel good. Feel good, do good. I’m a much nicer/happier person when I feel good about myself.

3. Thinking you have to dress your age. I’m sorry, you do not have to wear mumu’s and cut your hair off because you’re now in your 50’s. I’m not saying you should dress like your teenage daughter, but if you want to rock a pair of cut off shorts….go for it!!

If you want a front tie knot without the bulk, this is how you do it!

Shirt & shorts are JCrew factory. My shirt is a gauze material which is perfect for summer. I’m wearing a S.

The shorts actually run a little big. I sized down to a 25. I love them so much I even have them in white!

My earrings are JCrew and are very lightweight while still making a statement.

My necklaces were gifts from my husband, but I’m linking similar ones to achieve the same look 😊

If you like classic style but with an edge, you’re in the right place!

I love to add a little bit of spice to all of my outfits. Whether through a red shoe, a metallic belt, a lot of accessories, or a leather jacket anything to give it umph 💥

You need this style tool in your closet!! Perfect for adding stitches in strategic places to give you the look you’re trying to achieve. Besides adding a stitch to a button down, you can add a stitch to make your collar lay flat, open it wider to show off your necklaces, hold a sleeve in place, fix a plunging neckline, etc. etc.

My adorable blouse is by J. McLaughlin (it has birds on it 😊). I love the color combo of orange, pink & brown. I sized up one size for an oversized fit.

My belt is by Frye and it’s on sale for $20!

My jeans are Mother flares. I’m linking a very similar pair

This little tool is helpful in so many ways! Besides stitching where you want a button to go, it can also stitch down a collar, hold a sleeve in place, fix a top that’s too low cut, etc. etc.

Memorial Day is around the corner! Heading to a casual cookout or beach gathering? I’ve got you covered!

And yes……you can still wear cutoff’s over 50! If you are worried about them being too short, order a pair with a longer inseam and cut them to the desired length !

What are your thoughts??

Watch the video to see how to cuff a long sleeve top so it stays!

I am in love with this gauze blouse from JCrew factory. It’s so lightweight and breezy. Perfect for Spring & Summer. I like an oversized fit. I’m wearing a S.

I bought these cut-offs by Mother and I have lived in them!! I prefer a little bit of a looser fit (I don’t like shorts that hug my legs). I’m in a 27

You should always have basic key pieces in your closet for when you find yourself with nothing to wear.

I always preach planning ahead for an event. In this case, I did not take my own advice. I waited too late to order some dresses, and they came in just a couple of hours before the party. And of course, none of them worked.

So I had to make do with what I had. I came up with a black skirt, ivory bodysuit (I’m in XS), a pair of heels and a straw clutch.

These are pieces that you can throw together last minute and still look put together. This is why we need great basics in our closet!

#LTKVideo #LTKover40 #LTKstyletip
An oversized button down is quickly becoming one of my favorite go-to’s. However, styling them can be tricky.

An easy way to style is to unbutton the bottom two buttons, twist the flaps twice, then tuck those in. I suggest tucking in the back as well if the top is oversized and long.

Rolling the sleeves always looks nice, but it’s hard to make them stay up. So instead of a normal sleeve roll, pull the sleeve up to the length you want it to be, then add a roll on top of that!

I always like to find a special piece of clothing when I travel. Hopefully something that is classic and timeless. When I saw this blazer on a recent trip to Switzerland, I knew this was the piece.

I love a blazer year round, and especially khaki in the Spring. This one has a military construction to it. Although I can’t link this exact one, I have found some that are very similar.

My tee is by L’Agence. It runs on the small side. I always recommend buying good quality base layers.

My jeans are a dark rinse, skinny flare by JCrew. This rinse is perfect for going out because it lends itself to being more dressy.

With the jeans and tshirt as a base layer, you can then mix and match belts, shoes, blazers, sweaters, etc. Start with your basics, then build out from there.

My belt is Anine Bing. It looks great with brown suede shoes. My booties are sold out, but I have found some that are almost identical

I am currently taking courses through FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) to become certified in Fashion Styling Foundations. Here are 5 truths about style that I have learned:

1. Dress for your body type: Knowing how to dress for your body is key. It creates balance and proportion. For example, if you have wide hips and narrow shoulders, you probably shouldn't wear a peplum top that will add more width to your hips. Conversely, if you have broad shoulders and narrow hips, you would not want to wear a top with strong statement shoulders.

2. Personal style trumps trends: Adopt your own personal style and wear what makes you happy, and what fits and flatters your body. If something is trending and it doesn't align with your unique style, ignore it. For example, barrel jeans are very trendy right now. However, I will not be wearing them. My personal style is a bootcut/flare jean or a slimmer wide leg jean.

3. Quality over Quantity: Stop buying pieces just because they are "cute" or "on trend". You will be so much better off with quality pieces in your wardrobe that can be mixed and matched for great outfit combinations. Prioritize well made pieces that will last. Once you have your base established, then think about adding in the more trendy pieces.

4. Know what colors complement you: When you wear colors that work with your skin tone, it will brighten your complexion and make you appear more vibrant. An added benefit in knowing your colors is that it makes shopping soooo much easier. It helps narrow down your options so you can focus on what works best for you.

5. Confidence: See 1,2,3, & 4 above. Once you get the hang of these, confidence will follow. Embrace your own unique style and wear it proudly!

There are unfortunately so many misconceptions about style that are holding women back. Please do not think that you need the following things in order to be stylish:

1. Following every trend--While I do think it's important to be up to date on certain trends, it is not necessary to follow them. If something doesn't feel right for you, don't wear it. If you are not comfortable in it, it will show. Find what you love and wear what works for you.

2. Budget--It is absolutely not true that only women with large budgets have style. You do not have to wear a logo to be stylish. There are so many options available at different price points.

1. Age--Have you seen that fashion brands are now becoming more age inclusive? They are now including models that are 50 plus, plus? Your age should never hold you back from wearing what you love.

4. Body Type--please stop thinking that you have to be a certain size to have style. What you need to do instead is know your body type and dress in ways that fit and flatter.

Date Night OOTN

Here are tips for elevating your outfit:
Add a statement shoe, add a 3rd layer (jacket, scarf, sweater over your shoulders), add lots of jewelry (you can mix metals), add a belt, add an “evening” bag.

Red is very much on trend right now, as well as leopard. And the two together really make a statement.

This red top by Sézane is the perfect red. I love the cable knit and the buttons on the sleeve. It’s great for layering. It’s selling out quickly so I’m linking a similar one by Brooks Brothers.

Red shoes are such a great way to add interest to your outfit. I’m linking several pairs. Very on trend for spring: red kitten heel slingbacks 💥

My jeans are sold out so I’m linking a similar pair.

I love the look of denim on denim. You can be creative with it. The denims do not have to match!

GRWM as I style this adorable and super comfortable sweatshirt by Varley. It has such cute detail and can easily be worn as more than athleisure.

I added a lace tank underneath, a sequin belt, western inspired booties, and jewelry.

#LTKstyletip #LTKover40 #LTKVideo
Here are easy suggestions for getting the layered look.

1) Start with your main core piece that you want to be the focal point.
2) Add a shorter piece that sits closer to the neck.
3) Add a necklace that layers in between these two pieces.

Once you have the foundation of these 3 pieces, you can leave it as is, or keep adding pieces. Think about mixing different textures, different metals (perfectly fine to mix silver & gold), and mixing costume jewelry with fine jewelry.

Susan Shaw makes great statement pieces at reasonable prices, as well as Mignonne Gavigon. And if you don’t want to think about it you can buy a layered piece that’s all one necklace from Artisan Joyeria. And Etsy is a great option for other layering pieces

How I styled the most ADORABLE blouse from Tuckernuck. It checks all of the boxes for me—fit, color, pattern, and of course, birds. I am s SUCKER for anything that has birds on it!

I styled the blouse with off white flare jeans by Mother (linking others as well because these are selling out!), green belt & boots.

I also paired it for a more casual look with regular denim, burgundy belt & matching boots.

And these earrings by Smith & Co. are quickly becoming my favorites. They are mixed metal and look so glamorous on. They would make a great Valentines gift!

2024 Trend you need to know about: Mob Wife aesthetic! It’s all about glam and I’m loving it!!

It’s big, it’s bold, it’s expressive, and it’s unapologetic.

So quit with the comfy matching sets and go mob wife.

It’s easy to achieve. Start with an all black base (pants, tops, dresses, skirts), add some leopard and a vintage or faux fur. Finish the look with a lot of gold jewelry, big hair, red nails and lips (if you dare), and oversized black sunglasses

What’s in & what’s out for 2024!

Are skinny jeans out of style?? Well, it depends. For the most part I would say yes. But, I do have a couple of pairs of tall boots that I am still wearing my skinnies with. Pair with an oversized blazer or jacket and you will still be on trend. If you would rather be even more current, then try pairing your tall boots with a pair of straight leg denim for a little bit of a more slouchy look (not to be confused with sloppy 😉)

Here’s an easy style hack when you’re in a rut and don’t know what to wear: Wear all Black.

Wearing all black is chic, timeless and always looks good. Plus it’s slimming and can help you look taller.

Use it as a blank canvas and add accessories, shoes, belts, outerwear, etc. for an easy outfit that always works.

If you are looking to enhance your style journey, you've come to the right place! I am currently enrolled in the FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) Fashion Styling Foundations program. So, I'm going to be sharing with you what I'm learning!

Here are 3 KEY foundations that I've learned so far:

1. Dress for your body type. Knowing what types of clothes to wear that will flatter and also conceal certain parts of your body is fundamental. (For example, if you are pear shaped, you will want to add dimension on top with strong shoulder tops, and avoid bottoms that draw attention).

2. Create your OWN personal style. Don't wear styles just because they are "on trend". You will feel your best if you are wearing clothes that reflect your own persona and taste. If you're unsure how to do this, watch what others are doing and copy their style if you like it. And don't be afraid to try new things!

3. Know your uniform. @ele says it over and over, and it could not be more true. Once you find what you love and feel good in, buy it on repeat and you will always know you have something flattering to wear. For example, my uniform is flare jeans, boots and a sweater. I buy these items in multiples and mix and match. This gives me a no-fail outfit formula.

And the good news? Style is not innate. It can be learned!

I will be sharing a lot more content and expanding on these foundations. My goal is to help you become the best, most confident version of yourself through your own personal style. So, make sure you're following my account!

Tips on styling wide leg jeans!

#LTKover40 #LTKstyletip #LTKVideo
Wide leg pants are definitely on trend for Fall/Winter. If you're curious how to style them, save this for later to refer back to these 5 style tips!

1️⃣ Wear a fitted or cropped top. You don't want anything too loose or baggy. The key is to create balance with the wide leg bottoms.

2️⃣ If your top is long, tuck it in. You can opt for a full tuck or French (front) tuck. Again, you want balance.

3️⃣ Add a belt if you're tucking your top in. It helps cinch the waist and adds visual interest.

4️⃣ Wear a pointed toe heel. You want the tip of the shoe to "peek" out from under your pants.

5️⃣ If you wear a jacket, opt for one with a shorter length.

#LTKVideo #LTKstyletip #LTKover40
I don't know about you, but the older I get the more I'm looking to elevate my outfits. One of my favorite ways now is to add a blazer.

Here are two ways to update the look of your blazer that will make you look slimmer.

1. Wear a vneck shirt underneath. The vneck elongates the torso and creates a slimming effect.
2. Roll your sleeves and push them up. Showing your wrists helps you to look slimmer and helps the blazer to look less overwhelming (especially if it's oversized).

These are easy tips for an effortless blazer look that is updated and elevated!

#LTKstyletip #LTKVideo #LTKover40
Do you know what the biggest fashion mistake is that women make? Not dressing for their body type.

In order to dress better you need to learn to work WITH your body instead of against it. Not every style is going to look good on you.

Every body is unique and different. You don’t need to lose weight or try and change yourself in order to feel better about your style. By knowing your body type, you can find clothes that look best on you.
