18. Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner :: unrated. Boy oh boy this was a heavy book. Michelle is half Korean and half American and she grew up in a small town in Oregon. Spending most of her life trying to look less Korean, she realizes too late that she wants to thrive in her Korean culture. Michelle’s mom is diagnosed with cancer, and the book goes into detail about how Michelle cared for her and her emotions when she dies. This could be a heavy trigger warning so proceed with caution. I wasn’t expecting this book to be as sad as it was. The majority of this book I spent choked up or with tears in my eyes. I’m not a fan of sad books like this, but it was very well written.
