Continuing our #winewednesday series, I’ll let Michael introduce this weeks pick; In the 1980s, before I built my house in Spain, I used to take my summer vacations in Tuscany, my favourite province in Italy and home to the world-famous wine-growing region of Chianti. Every evening was a special occasion, eating outside on terraces or in gardens with the marvellous Tuscan cooking accompanied always by the local wines. It was a great excitement to me when I was eventually able to persuade Sherri to let me take her and the kids there a few summers ago and share the experiences I had enjoyed so much in my younger years. Sherri will speak for herself, but I believe she enjoyed it as much as I did. I was recently given a bottle of Volpaia 2018. This is a stand-out Chianti Classico, aged for 12 months before release, but made to be drunk young. It is an excellent example of Chianti where the full fruit of the Sangiovese grape is delivered without rough edges or excess tannins. It is easy to drink, but has good structure underneath. At a price ranging from $12-15, it is very good value.
