It’s NO SECRET we’re big Polaroid girlies, BIG. We LOVE Polaroid’s film chemistry, story, and process and cannot get enough EVER. Polaroid is keeping instant film alive with a wide selection of modern day cameras and films, available alongside their always dreamy and nostalgia-filled vintage options! Here’s some of our faves!!!

Cameras:
- Polaroid Now + (Bluetooth connects!)
- Polaroid Go (Gen 3 out now!)
- Polaroid 600 (the classic!!)

Films:
- iType color (love how well this goes toe to toe with the original 600 chemistry, but with a little more POP and less $$$)
- 600 Color (again, the classic, can’t REALLY beat a classic!)
- iType B&W (the contrast and depth is satin smooth and gorgina!)
- 600 B&W (even MORE vintage classic!!)

FujiFilm is one of our favorite film and camera brands, so it should come as no surprise we’ve made ourselves veryyyy familiar with their vast array of cameras & films, especially of the Instax variety!!!

Instax cameras & film are known for user friendliness, portability, & FUN! Perfect for scrapbooking, guest books, and just general tangible memory-keeping (lots of these cameras are hybrid and save a digital copy of your photo as well as printing an instant film version and I’m OBSESSED!)

This Instax has been a trusty sidekick for so long, we used it as our wedding guestbook camera in 2018 and she’s been going strong as a lil memory keeper for us ever since!!! Instax has also released so many newer models of this camera since then, many of which we’ve used at various gatherings / events / seen at weddings for our couples’ wedding guestbooks and they are ALL sooo stellar!!!

HOW WE CAPTURED THE FIRST EVER MPLS SAPPHICS SOCIAL CLUB!!

Had so much fun at this gathering of the Minneapolis femme & NB sapphics, and brought along a some of our faveee documentation tools to document it — and we’re so excited to be sharing mems captured!

We kept things simple and portable for this event — perfect for park hangs, candid moments, and chasing golden hour.

Scanning Polaroids and personal film is a fave part of our process, there’s several ways to scan film at home, our preferred method is via flatbed scanner — our fave is Epson’s flatbed scanners with film-tray & high res scanning capabilities! Connects with software on your desktop to allow you full control of your images!

If you’ve ever flown with undeveloped analog film you probably know JUST how important it is to have TSA/Security agents ✋ hand check your film instead of sending it through the XRay, since that can damage your film — traditionally this has only been the case for certain film stocks and exposures, but with new tech even low iso film stocks can be terribly affected!!

Here are some detailed tips to help you maximize your Polaroid Now + Photos & Experience (see more via our free quick guides on our site via the “How To Guides” Button!):

📲 Connecting and getting started:
- Charge your camera fully before connecting it to the app.
- Download the Polaroid App from the Apple App Store.
- Enable Bluetooth on your iPhone.
- Open the Polaroid App and tap “Now+” from the menu. Tap “OK” to grant the necessary permissions.
- Wait for the “+Button” on your camera to light up solid blue indicating a successful connection.

🎨 Exploring creative modes:
Experiment with:
- Remote: Allows you to control the exposure and flash. This is the most important feature of the app and the only way to take a properly exposed image with your Polaroid Now +.
- Self Timer: Trigger the shutter remotely from your iPhone, perfect for self-portraits or group shots with the camera on a tripod.
- Double Exposure: Capture two images on a single film frame for artistic and unique effects. After taking the first shot, the app will display “2” prompting you for the second.
- Aperture Priority: Select your desired aperture (controlling depth of field), and the camera will automatically adjust the shutter speed for proper exposure. A lower f-stop creates a blurred background, while a higher f-stop keeps more of the image in focus.
- Tripod Mode: Ideal for longer exposures and precise framing.
Portrait Mode: Optimize settings for sharper, well-exposed portraits, especially useful for subjects within 0.4m to 1.2m.
- Light Painting: Utilize a light source (like a flashlight) during a slow shutter speed exposure to “draw” or “paint” with light within your image.
- Full Manual Mode: Gain complete control over aperture, shutter speed, flash strength, and more. The light meter in the app guides you to proper exposure, aiming for the “0” mark.

📝 General Helpful tips:
- Polaroid cameras thrive in ample light. Use the flash in low-light situations & always use the exposure remote.
- Utilize the focus feature: Half-press the shutter button to focus
- Store and develop your film properly: Keep it room temp out of direct sunlight and shield developing photos from light.
