Make your own stunning holiday mantel for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Here are my tips to create a lush and full Christmas mantel. (and I kept this neutral enough to be used at Thanksgiving too).
✨Start with a few strategically placed finishing nails. You CAN use sticky hooks as well (& sometimes I do) but usually I prefer nails. They’re easy to fill in paint if needed but I try to be discreet in placement.
✨I use zip ties to attach everything.
✨Add a chicken wire base. You can
lay it flat across the mantel or vertically next to your mirror if you want to build height. I nail mine in.
✨Layer several different garlands together and use more than 1 type. I used 4 here of varying sizes and shapes. 2 are Norfolk and 2 are Cedar.
✨Use a lot of floral picks to create depth and texture. You can stick them right into the chicken wire and, if need be, secure them with the zip ties.
✨Don't expect to finish it in 30 minutes.
It's an artistic process and you'll want to step back and think about it for a moment.
✨You can use what you have. I had a lot of floral stems that were actually intended more for summer arrangements, but I found that they added a touch of lightness and texture to my mantel.
✨Do add lots of embellishments. Bells, ornaments, ribbons and lights will add just the right finishing sparkle.
✨Don’t be afraid to change your mind and rework it as often as necessary. I definitely did not get mine right the first time.
✨Get creative and have fun!

NOTE: If you buy the 72” Natural Norfolk Pine garland Deluxe (listed at the end) from Interior Delights, you would probably only need ONE other small garland.
