Cool weather hiking go to: layers + layers + layers. I don’t actually own a winter coat so I layer up with merino wool base layer, a long sleeve hoodie, and my raincoat. Unpack my dayhike pack with me. This was for an 8 mile day hike in a remote area. I always make sure that I have the ten hiking essentials every time I go in remote areas, just to stay safe. Excuse my super swollen fingers. Anyone else had hands that swell when you hike?
This is one of my TOP FIVE gear recommendations! These carabiners are good for everything. Every type of adventure and versatile for every thing. On this trip I used them to clip my shoes to my pack so they didn’t risk falling out during a river crossing on a hike. They’re the BEST!

In our family, adventures are a big part of our homeschool and our life. My kids call these their adventure pants and they hold up to every type of shenanigan we throw at them. The Mountainmaker kids hiking pants from REI are THE best. We also love the REI Rainier rain coats. It never gets very cold where we live, but when it does, we just layer with our raincoats and we are perfectly warm.

Can you believe I fit 5 days of clothes for NYC in this bag, AND still fit a fancy dress? This packing system made it all possible. Fancy Adventure
These three things have been a staple in our school room for a while! 1) a tiny (electric) fireplace space heater. This one lets us just have the light on without the heat. 2) Cute, realistic looking, paper moths in different places around the room. 3) Floating, wizard inspired candles with a wand remote! We love these and they add such a whimsical charm to our space. #LTKHome
