We have a tradition the past several years of making hot chocolate and going to look at lights the night before Christmas. It’s something I really look forward to because the massive Live Oak trees in the old parts of Houston are the most incredible sight all lit up. The kids informed me this year they are “over it” and “it’s sooo boring”. 😟 I guess it’s part of them growing older, but darn it I thought we were going to have a little more time before traditions became uncool. What traditions do you have? I need some new ideas.

Craving some Christmas cookies in a bad way. Will definitely have to mix up a batch of sugar cookies. And they will definitely have to be frosted. But not in the pretty royal frosting Instagram worthy way. In the slap some cake frosting on them right out of the jar way. No worries about whether they’ll be able to stack and not get frosting everywhere because these aren’t getting stacked to eat later. Nope, these are getting eaten right now. My teeth are already buzzing thinking about it 😄

Yes, you can absolutely put a vintage rug in a kitchen! Through spills and drips (even en entire jar of pizza sauce) a vintage wool rug can weather it all like a champ. And you just cannot beat the character it adds to your space, not to mention the comfort underfoot. I’ve never regretted my decision, just that I didn’t give it a try sooner 😉

I am so thrilled with the new kitchen counter stools! They add just the right amount of warmth and you seriously cannot beat having a larger seat 🍑 And, they’re on sale!

Our island opening is 32” high so the counter height was perfect for us to comfortably sit with our legs under the counter ledge. But if you’re looking for something taller they also come in bar height.

Yesterday in stories I shared how I touch up nicked black furniture and cabinets with a Sharpie. I was surprised how many of you said you hadn’t heard of that trick! It’s THE BEST. While not very noticeable in this photo, our black kitchen island is constantly beat to pieces and could use another Sharpie refresh. If only white cabinets were that easy to touch up! What’s a hack or tip you love to use at your house?

My mom has been here visiting for the last two weeks and it has been the perfect way to end our Summer. I always feel full and refreshed when she’s here. We have been enjoying latte’s every day here in the kitchen nook. It’s about that time of the day where I need to get some going fo us again. It’s a million degrees outside but I’m in the kitchen baking a cake 😄 I’m trying out a decorative loaf pan for the first time, learned something new, and found out about a product I didn’t know existed (check out stories for more about that). I guess it’s true what they say, you really do learn something new everyday! Now, who wants cake?
