Products that fade stretch marks are few & far between. Treating them in the early stages, while they are still red, is key. Once they turn white they are very resistant to treatment. Study subjects who applied tretinoin (prescription topical vitamin A) daily for 24 weeks had less noticeable stretch marks, compared to those who did not. Other forms of topical vitamin A may also help prevent stretch marks. Centella & hyaluronic acid are two other ingredients that show promise for stretch marks.
“What about (insert your favorite ingredient)?” Nope. Popular remedies, including almond oil, cocoa butter, olive oil, & vitamin E, have not proven to work for stretch marks in studies. Also, note that retinol & retinoid (topical vitamin A) are contraindicated in pregnancy.
