while we love a classic blue and white color scheme, one of our favorite tricks is to introduce a third color to keep things from feeling too on the nose. inspired by a beautiful hydrangea print wallpaper from @riflepaperco, we created a custom shade of green paint to use for the trim, doors, and even some of the furniture in the primary bedroom at the #preppyhollowhouse. wide plank white oak hardwood floors and woven wood window shades add natural texture to the space. #dwelloctoberstay #dwelloctober

one of our favorite things about designing short-term rentals is the opportunity to make bolder choices than when designing homes that we live in everyday. for the kitchen at the #preppyhollowhouse, we opted for bold coral cabinets, then added subtle green and white star-patterned cement backsplash tile, and brushed gold plumbing fixtures. we love the cheerful, welcoming feeling this combination creates and hope it sets the tone for a fun vacation as soon as our guests walk through the door. #dwelloctoberstay #dwelloctober

it may be cold and snowy out here in New England, but we are dreaming of warm summer days spent at the #preppyhollowhouse, enjoying a classic Cape Cod summer. when updating the exterior, we removed the small deck on the back of the house and replaced it with a brick patio perfect for outdoor dining and grilling. we also switched out the existing sliding glass door for a regular exterior door, which allowed us to gain a bit more storage space in the kitchen. the private backyard offers plenty of space for outdoor games. #dwelloctoberstay #dwelloctober

when designing the bedrooms at the #preppyhollowhouse, we wanted to give each room its own distinct personality, all while maintaining a cohesive look throughout the house. we chose to use the same green trim paint in each bedroom, but selected different wallpaper for each space. the colorful striped wallpaper used for this room reminded us of sunny days spent playing croquet or tennis. a vintage faux bamboo bedroom set balances out the pastel colors and grounds the space. #dwelloctoberstay #dwelloctober

the kitchen turned out to be the most dramatic transformation at the #preppyhollowhouse. first, we removed the wall between the kitchen and living room to create one large open-concept space, then we vaulted the ceiling in the kitchen area to create symmetry and add volume. the existing kitchen felt dark and dated, so we introduced lots of color, using bright coral cabinets and a green star-patterned cement tile for the backsplash. we also added an island with additional storage and space for dining, as well as some white oak open shelving. #dwelloctoberstay #dwelloctober

there's just something about this bathroom that gives us that squeaky clean feeling! when redesigning the primary bathroom at the #preppyhollowhouse, we knew that we wanted to convert the existing tub into a walk-in shower and incorporate blue and white striped tile. we love how the light green trim paint offers a fresh take on a classic color scheme. blue and white floral hexagon tile, a white oak vanity, blue sconce, and vintage mirror add the finishing touches to this light and airy bathroom. #dwelloctoberstay #dwelloctober

the original living room at the #preppyhollowhouse had a lot of great features to work with: vaulted ceilings, double windows, and a fireplace. to maximize the space and let more light in, we removed a wall that divided the living room and kitchen. we also removed the dated fan-shaped window and gave the fireplace a facelift with a new surround and lots of fresh white paint. a vintage rattan couch and loveseat balance out the white, while green gingham upholstery adds a pop of color. #dwelloctoberstay #dwelloctober
