We all have to get dressed, so here’s what I ACTUALLY love wearing.

You can grab one of my fav necklaces for 30% off via Anthro’s Black Friday sale - and you can do it A WEEK SOONER than ANYONE else with my code EMILYH30. Bring home your favs before they sell out next week! (Also sharing a few other pieces of jewelry from my gift guide - so many good finds this year!)

The best sherpa-lined shacket is 50% off now! These men have different builds (but VERY buff, of course) so when they both looked and felt really good in something it indicates to me that it was a universally flattering cut – i.e. strong wide shoulders and a good drape that men with a super slight, ahem, *beer* belly might like. Both these guys have a more utilitarian vibe (i.e. not office jobs) but I think that many guys like this look for weekends, too. They aren’t models but they both looked so good in this cord/sherpa jacket.

Dragged my husband Brian and my brother Ken to the mall to figure out what two (very different!) adult men actually want for Christmas.

“Then Ken got into the Footloose spirit with this Sherpa-lined denim jacket. I also own one and get compliments on it all the time. I think there’s something about a Sherpa denim jacket that makes us feel like high school rebels again,” Brian says.

RUN, DON’T WALK - this top (and a bunch of other great printed options from Farm Rio) are 40% off (and more) at Nordstrom right now. We’re talking HUGE savings - like, $80-$120 off on showstoppers from a brand we LOVE. If you’ve wanted to try Farm Rio but haven’t been able to justify the cost, this is a great way to try it out without breaking the bank!

This one is nice and roomy in the pits (just how I like them) so that it can be thrown over and layer well. It’s my new favorite. It has multiple pockets that close (stop it with the side pockets where things fall out easily) and a little gather to break up the boxiness. Here I’m modeling last year’s Madewell shorts (these are oversized and I roll them up) with some cute 70s-inspired Bombas and my new strangely flattering New Balances (the shape of the shoe when you look down is legit very cute).

Lo and behold, I’ve tried some new jeans! And I’m happy to report that they are both “in” and they look good. MAMA’S STILL GOT IT! All these pairs are from @madewell, they have great construction and a comfortable waist, and my younger team (who dresses more hip and cool than I do) loved each of these pairs on me. Great options if you’re interested in trying a new silhouette! #ad #madewellpartner #madewell

she’s easy, she’s breezy, and she’s ready for warmer weather! Love this throw-on-and-go spring dress (and adding a little shape with a chambray shirt around the waist).

#LTKSeasonal #LTKstyletip #LTKover40
This one is a long sleeve shirt dress and that pattern is very forgiving and easy to wear. Would be cute with sneakers or flip-flops, too. The fabric is a bit thicker than cotton (think closer to a thin canvas?) which felt nicely structured.

#LTKover40 #LTKstyletip #LTKSeasonal
Y’all. I love my loose chambray dresses, but this one (which is thicker but not crazy thick or too hot) is so cute. It’s definitely a “throw on and look professional/cool instantly while still being comfortable”. The cut really mimics a men’s shirt (the sides come up and the sleeves are dropped). A few more denim picks below (all @madewell, of course)… #ad #madewellpartner #madewell

These are the famous Colette pants in denim from Anthropologie that come in a million washes and colors (and multiple people in my life have told me they are their favorite jeans ever). I get the hype now and I can tell you the #1 reason why they are so popular – front square pockets are really really flattering. Also, that blouse is so cute.
This is the most lightweight, easy breezy cotton (but nice quality) caftan out there. I used to own the same one in blue but longer and loved it. The alternating stripes create a pattern that moves your eye around and thus distracts from what is underneath. You don’t have to tie it either if you want it to be loose (the tie is on the inside). It also comes in other colors (the darker colors aren’t see-through and you can wear it as a dress), but my goodness it’s PERFECT. I feel so cute, comfortable, and not too exposed to belly up to a restaurant at the beach or hotel.

Ready for spring (and our upcoming spring break vacation) with this sweet striped dress from @frankandeileen. LOVE adding a little shape with one of their classic denim button downs, too. Everything I own gets more and more comfortable, wash after wash - they’re keep-forever pieces that I feel great in. More favs below… #wearloverepeat #frankandeileenpartner

I’m doing the corduroy trend and this skirt is so cute, easy to wear (boots! socks with loafers!), and another great cozy and oversized cardigan. The striped tee is great for layering and one that I’ve worn a few times since we shot this.

#LTKSeasonal #LTKover40 #LTKstyletip
The sweater is old from Alex Mill and has a cute boxy cut with dropped shoulders. It takes an outfit that could feel more statement-y and calms it down a lot. The skirt is short but pairing it with suede over-the-knee boots (are we still saying thigh-highs?) covers up most skin and would look cute with brown tights, too. I also like the boots being suede instead of leather as it also tones it down a bit.

#LTKshoecrush #LTKSeasonal #LTKstyletip
Here we have a quilted plaid skirt that I just bought. I paired it with a fancy sock because that’s a thing apparently and I think I like it (especially with those pumps that I got years ago and rarely wear, though it may be more seasonally appropriate if you swap the socks for warm tights). The denim blazer is the one from Madewell that I love (roomy but still flattering). I bought both a size 4 and 6 in the skirt and much prefer the 6.

#LTKover40 #LTKstyletip #LTKGiftGuide
Another skirt I’ve had forever that I’m so glad I kept (same with the shoes, but these are so close). I wanted to calm down the vibe of the black leather with tights, wooden-heeled shoes, and again, a blousy top (I just bought this for a huge shoot I had a few weeks ago). I really look like I love drinking coffee in my mini skirt ha. But honestly, I do really love this look and feel good in it. #LTKCyberWeek

For all you one-piece romper folks this is a great one – cropped, zipper, tie around the waist, and more fitted than baggy. These things can easily be dressed up and down, and go day to night so well (thus my love of them).

#LTKGiftGuide #LTKover40 #LTKstyletip
The white henley is one of my favorite basics here – super thin and easy to layer and drapes so well. The joggers bunch so well with taller ankle boots as you can see and are a great utilitarian vibe. The joggers are high-waisted FYI.

Straight from my gift guide (on stylebyemilyhenderson.com - you can’t miss the banner!): the Magazine tote from Madewell. SO cute, so functional, and so giftable!!

#LTKGiftGuide #LTKstyletip #LTKitbag
I recently bought this striped button-up which I’ve worn a lot because it’s so good to layer under thicker sweaters. Many poplin or cotton shirts can be too stiff to layer under anything that is fitted (they bunch in the armpits and wrists), but this one is satin-y (polyester probably) and is super thin so it layers and drapes really easily. I’ve had that cardigan for years but those are my new barrel pants that I love (and they are thick and good for cool weather).

FYI: Madewell is having a HUGE Cyber Monday sale where our favorite pieces (including these!) are all 50-60% off with code CYBER. What are you waiting for?! @madewell #madewellpartner #ad

UGH. This cape is ridiculously good. It’s gingham wool, totally timeless, and extremely high quality. It’s a lot of fabric so for me, I’d wear it more with heels than sneakers, but I might make up a work lunch or trip to NYC with someone just to wear it. It’s splurgy but I feel like it’s one of those pieces that will be in FOREVER. It makes such a statement in a really classic way. The details are so good. And those are my favorite over-the-knee boots (they come in blue suede which I secretly wish I had bought instead, but the brown suede is probably more classic). And this new oversized beanie that I proceeded to lose out of my pocket on a pitch-black nighttime walk with the pups (I’ve already repurchased because the chunkiness is so good).

Your Thanksgiving sweater is here (and half off!!!). It is a bit long (and I have a short torso) so I give it a little tuck. Good front pockets and quarter zip. LOTS of room for food, snacks, and treats. What else could you ask for?

LOVE these black boots that look so much more expensive than they are. (Can you believe they’re Madewell?) Add in a cute black bag and a denim tuxedo and you’ll be ready to go…anywhere :)

While Brian remarked how this looked very sofa fabric-esque (not wrong) I LOVE this “suit”. I bought it for an event then realized that in Portland I might have stood out more than I wanted to while I was there (I was right). This is thick brocade-like fabric and really busy (and thus forgiving). Of course, these boots are the star of the show (and come in blue suede, too which I wish I had bought but I love these).

Feelin fall, y’all. Adding this easy outfit to my regular fall rotation.

Are you team dressed up or dressed down?? Here’s how I style some of my cute but elevated essentials from @frankandeileen (that’s the cold-weather appropriate version of the jumpsuit you saw me in all summer!) — all of my key pieces linked below! #frankandeileenpartner #wearloverepeat

And here’s how I dress up my throw-on-and-go favs! Nothing you can’t do when you’re dressed in a drapey white button down, some sleek and tailored chinos (the perfect amount of drape!) and a few warm leather accessories.

Team dressed up or dressed down? Here’s how I style my comfy fall jumpsuit from @frankandeileen when I want to feel comfortable, but still pulled together.

this was my foray into the ENORMOUS baggy jean trend that I previously thought was not for me. I tried on SO MANY JEANS – like 30-40 pairs and this was the only “baggy” one that I liked. These are Good American (some are so great, some are so cheesy, right?) and they are CRAZY long. Like I’m wearing 6″ boots here. Nordstrom will hem for free, so I might do that. But I have to say I think the look is fun and a little outside my norm. I didn’t know what to wear on top because I know the rule – if you go big on the bottom, you can’t go big on top (or the other way around which is my usual game) so I pulled out a shirt that I bought three years ago and have barely worn but LOVE. It has intense shoulder pads which is dope, but it’s such a statement. Also, living in SW Portland and not having an office job this isn’t something you just throw on. Anyway, for all of you who do leave the house, care about fashion and live in cities where dressing up is more of a thing both the jeans and the top are awesome. The top is spandex, but thick enough that it’s really flattering (I think I bought it when I gave myself the challenge to look “sexy” for a date night with Brian – needless to say this top wasn’t exactly what Brian would have picked to check that box, but we agreed it’s cool). I think I’d likely wear it with tiny shorts and heels – that’s more my game.

#LTKSale #LTKstyletip #LTKover40
I bought this denim trench the SECOND I saw it (not part of my Madewell partnership). It’s excellent – drapes really well, layers really well, and is so much more me than a classic trench. I can dress it up like I did here or down (Soccer games? Sure!). Those are the kitten heeled booties I was talking about (my kids were very confused why the heels were so tiny and they naturally loved that they were called “kittens”.

Trying to lock in your go-to comfy fall outfits? Here’s one of mine. I bought these pants during my last mall shopping trip and continue to LOVE them. They are barrel shaped (which is what works on my body versus just baggy), with a lot of distressing and are very comfortable. They are thicker so I didn’t wear them much this summer, but come fall I will be living in these. That Madewell button-up is excellent – super thin (not see through), easy to layer, great boxy cut but with that rounded sides to give it some shape. The sweater (Alex Mill) is a beautiful year round piece – I wore it a lot in spring and sure enough we are moving into fall with it.
