30 second book reviews for what I’m currently reading!

I get requests for books to read aloud in a classroom almost every single day!

As a former school librarian, I have read aloud hundreds of books to classes of all ages and these are some of my tried-and-true book titles!

I did a reel like this a few weeks ago and it was so popular that I’m making it a series!
This was a better reading month than January (and a shorter month too!)

12 books still puts me behind but I’m slowly catching up!
If you read The Women (along with everyone else on the planet) in the last year or two, and thought “wow, I do not know almost anything about the Vietnam War” this reel is for you!

I’ve been fascinated by the Vietnam War for more than a decade and these are some of my favorite books I’ve read about it.
I think there’s something special about an author who can make a book feel wildly romantic and swoony with no spicy scenes!
I love reading my childhood favorites either on my own or aloud to my kids and I REALLY love a book that gives me the same vibes as those beloved books and series from my childhood

(I re-read Ella Enchanted on the way home from Italy in my 30s and sobbed through the whole end of the book on the airplane. It still gets me!)
Oooooh do people love The Wild Robot!

It’s been a major winner since it came out a decade ago and I get questions constantly from people looking for a good read-alike for their child or student.

Here are some books to try out! I’ve linked these, plus more Wild Robot readalikes below!

I read 9 books in January (I thought it was 10…but Goodreads added a ghost book)

Here are my quick takes on every book I read - what I loved, what missed, and who should read them.
When people ask why I kept reading the Emma M Lion books when I wasn’t really into them until book 5?

Frankly, I have no good response

I think mostly so many people had raved about them that I wanted to see what all the hype was about. Plus, I WAS enjoying them by book 3 - just not obsessed with them

How was your Emma M Lion experience?

I’ve also linked my other top reads of 2025!
This new Christmas release was a perfectly cozy read for December and made me want to put a Christmas tree in every room in my house!

Romance, secrets, some witty banter? What’s not to like!

This book was funnier and sweeter than I expected and I can see why it’s so popular!

Plus, it feels so good to read a Christmas book that doesn’t feel like a rerun of 1000 other Christmas books you’ve read.

PS I filmed this a week or so ago and now the rating on Amazon is down to 4.5 😂

One of my friends (who has four boys!) told me this book was a hit at her house and I’ve been meaning to read it aloud for over a year.

We’ve spent almost a year reading aloud the whole Little House series but when we finished that up, we dove right into this book and it was a hit!

We finished it one night in our hotel room in Boston while we ate treats and caught Bart up to speed on the storyline (since he’d missed the whole first 75% of it!). What a great memory!
