Walking into our new house, I knew immediately that I wanted to plank the ceiling in the kitchen/living/dining area. It’s a large room (swipe to seeeee, your first look!) and unexpected in a home from 1898. Even more unexpected is having 2 other living spaces but this will be the heart of the home and I want it to stand out. Been thinking a lot about this ceiling and this light fixture, and how I can incorporate both into the new house (can I even still call it new after 6 months??). I’m considering installing the light over the dining table + using battery bulbs until we can hardwire but the ceiling is at an angle + it might may not work well. And while the plan is to still add a ceiling treatment to the big room, perhaps the playroom or entry would be beautiful with this planking!? I’m experimenting with a rug under the dining table. Trying out what I have but think it’s a bit too wide…may need to go vintage to get a non-standard size. I’m liking a rug though in general! Pulls everything together and adds further separation to the big space. #farmhousedialfano

I don’t think I’ve properly shared our new dining table?! While I loved the oval shape of our previous table, it never felt quite right. I was ready for something more substantial and versatile...and I found it the Bon expandable table from @eq3. Given our dining room is doing triple duty these days (including a computer setup and craft area), having the flexibility of an adjustable table is key. The table is so well made and the matte finish + oak color is just gorgeous. Couldn’t be happier with it! What do you think?

When we moved in June, I couldn’t bear to leave our @rejuvenation pendant behind so I excluded it from the sale of the house. I’m still deciding where it can go in the new house. Ideally would love to get it back up over this table in the big room but there’s no hardwiring there so…she’s still patiently waiting. #farmhousedialfano

I’m thankful for the Halloween decor because I’ve been feeling very “eh” on the dining space. It was never meant to be complete but now that the kitchen and living areas are coming together, it’s feeling especially blah. Crown moulding will be added plus some beams eventually (maybe planks too) and new windows shades. But beyond that? Art, maybe a rug, and I’m considering adding some upholstered chairs for a more full look. What would you do?! #farmhousedialfano

I may be missing the old dining room but the new house is brimming with natural light! ✨ An unusual feature of this old home is that we have an open concept kitchen/dining/living room (one of 2 living spaces) and it’s been a creative challenge designing each area individually while thinking about how they look together as one space. Bridging the gap between the kitchen and the dining nook is the arched cane cabinet that I converted to a pantry but you would never know it…right!? Head to stories to get a closer look!

Our dining room in the old #farmhousedialfano was one of the last rooms I tackled. It took more than 5 years just to paint! But when we decided to plank the ceiling, a vision emerged and very little changed after that. It remained my favorite space and the light flooding the room every afternoon is probably what I miss most ✨ Would you plank your ceiling?!
