Trust me… I actually thought this lesson was a little lame and I almost didn’t do it as my last STEM lesson this school year. 🫣 but I decided to go for it any way….

I LOVE mapping out, researching and planning in-depth, multi-day projects for kids.

Currently, teaching one-day STEM lessons work better for my schedule. So that’s been a fun challenge for me!

Also, this lesson was great and the kids loved testing and fixing their designs in the moment. We talked about the science of bubbles beforehand and made everything inside before going outside.

My kids in this at-home daycare group (ages 2-4) learned all about different kinds of pollinators this past month: bees, butterflies & ladybugs. 🐝 🦋 🐞

To bring the science to life, we watched the life cycle of a butterfly using this kit.

So proud that all 5 survived! 🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋

That’s all the time I get to spend with the kids in my STEM Explorers Clubs after-school.

✨That one hour is magical, fun, creative, and a whirlwind. ✨

But what they don’t see are the countless hours I am researching, planning, prepping, creating and troubleshooting every single lesson to make sure that one hour together works.

And when that one hour each afternoon arrives…I get so excited to see each one of their faces and how they always want to guess what the project will be…the smile on their face when they do something really cool…the “Ms. Meredith, look what I made!” moments.

It’s always bittersweet when my clubs end for the school year, but I’m always thinking about the next project and what we can create next 😉

This literally happened today when I was subbing in K-5 STEM myself and these videos came through my messages😍😍😍

This lesson just got a major update with more student practice sheets and teacher slides!

It always warms my heart seeing my lessons being used in the wild and helping kids interact with STEM!

I need to print a big batch of animals so I’m prepared for the new year 😅

Here are some tips for when I created this:

✅ grab the print file of all the baby animals. It’s so much faster to have them all in one place.

✅ decide which baby animals you want for each color. I started making a Google Doc to keep track of mine. I did one solid color, but up to you if you want multiprint!

✅ test print a few animals before going all out to make sure they are the right size for the capsules

✅ for the actual machine, I also had to resize the original file so it would fit my printer. Make sure to save because you need everything to be proportional!

✅ use a bit of plastic glue (I linked my fav) to keep all the vending machine pieces together

✨ Tag me when you make yours! I want to see how they turn out!

I printed this machine and animals on my Bambu P1S and used Overture filament for all the different colors.

💙 I used Overture’s white PLA for the baby animals and machine.

I’m excited to mix and match this set for pickleball and Pilates this summer.

I’m wearing my typical size Large on everything except the sweatshirt.

The sweatshirt I sized up to xL to make it more baggy, and so glad I did!
