(Update your classics in your wardrobe instead of rushing out and buying crazy colours and frumpy florals. Never versatile, don’t look expensive unless they are, aging ! Buy better, fewer pieces.)

Tip: I am not a fan of spending a lot of money on denim : why would you when all the major high street brands like Zara, H&M, Mango and Uniqlo get it so right at great prices. ( they spend a fortune getting the fit right because ….they can). I would rather spend my hard earned cash on a fabulous designer bag or on expensive jacket.

Jetting off on a Euro summer holiday?
You need to think about your travel wardrobe. The trick ?
Plan your wardrobe around colours first: You want colours that go together = versatile.
Colours that love each other ( like you and your family after a 24 hour flight).
Colors that looks expensive but don’t have to be. That means what I call “expensive” colors like Black, white, neutrals, brown, grey and metallics. A soupçon of blue and lots of denim.

The aim: look chic, effortless and have lots of different outfits.
Don’t worry it’s easy.
There will be no breathing into a paper bag as everyone waits for you to get dressed.
Why?
Because you will take photos of all your outfits before you jet off. So you can cleverly refer to your secret look book before you head out . That means you can nonchalantly throw on your outfit in 5 minutes flat. And everyone is happy.

My best advice: only pack things you LOVE wearing. Never pack pieces you think you might wear. Because you won’t.

There are so many fabulous sneakers around it’s hard to choose which ones. It can get confusing right ? Never fear FiFi is here ! You might have white sneakers but it’s now time to update to new styles and colours. Because shoes are THE quickest and easiest way to update up your current wardrobe.

Hint : these sneakers are not to wear when exercising. Mais non ! These are for when you’re out and about: when you want to look casual , laid back & comfortable. ( But look like you have made an effort !)

In terms of colour go for white of course but also love choc brown, neutrals and caramels. (Surprise! Haha ). Perfect because they slip so easily straight into your current minimalist wardrobe.  But if you want an instant injection of colour ( dare I say !) then sneakers in bright shades are the way to go. Tip: always look for a camel sole ( not black ) means they will automatically link back to your neutral wardrobe.

Your winter uniform? A big coat. Long boots. It’s as easy as that. Then build an outfit around (under!) those two items with pieces that you already own. Chic pieces that just slide underneath a coat without a murmur.
Then add a fabulous designer bag and you’re done.

Let’s talk coats!
* You want a coat that’s long. Mid shin. Longer. Oversized. Go up a size if you need to. I always do.

* It can be single breasted or double breasted: just make sure it does up at the front and covers ‘the situation’. Meaning ? Make sure it sits across your front “ situation” even when it’s undone.

* You need versatile colours: Camel, navy, grey, brown, white , khaki , furry, suede or even leather.

* Walk past black. It’s not going to give you vava voom, bang for your buck. Total yawn fest. Nigh Nigh ! Can be so hard to style, it has to be VERY exaggerated to look cool.

* Everybody keep calm: if you have a long black winter coat (and I do have a few!) then surround them with tan, white and camel. Fabulous boots. Cream knits. Light wash denim. Instant chic. Default to white under there. Grey is good under it and so is a pleather skirt or pants. Welcome to my world.

* Remember big shoulders are happening. And a more tailored coat is looking new but it’s still BIG and LONG

Your new season work wardrobe starts here!

Times have changed in the corporate office world. Your wardrobe is probably more casual. Or you might be working part time from home. But you still want to look chic, understated, professional …and best for your age.

The trick ?
* Invest in expensive (looking) versatile colours like black, camel, navy and cream. (FYI Hot pink, Purple, bright green never look expensive unless they are.)( Just a reminder!) * Stick to the FiFi philosophy of table top dressing: make the focus on TOP of the body. That’s where people are looking: Your face ( not at your knees believe or not !) 
Which means investing in stand out jackets, major blouses and statement tops. Keep the bottoms classic and understated. ( they’re hidden under the table)( good for zoom too !) 
The good news is that the trouser suit is back.
And it makes life easy : just make sure it’s updated to a slouchy blazer and baggy pants. A loose cut looks effortless , FEELs comfortable. Go for black, grey, khaki, camel or brown.
(Navy can be tricky as it can look like an insurance /airline uniform & so it’s hard to style).( oh & close your eyes and keep walking if you see any trouser suits in hot pink, purple or bright green. Trouble ! They don’t look expensive, too hard to style).

Loving a barn jacket this season. You might call it a safari jacket or a field jacket.
Or even a utility jacket. I call it cool! 
What’s to love ? It’s not a blazer, a crop trench or a parka. (though it almost is!) But it works just as well. It is casual yet never boring. You can wear it summer into winter because it’s not really a heavy winter jacket. But because it has a casual nonchalant laid back vibe it suits the Australian lifestyle.

What to look for ?  Go for a barn jacket in a brown, beige khaki or neutral. (Surprise!) (black is too heavy and dark).  It should have pockets, it might have a cord collar , leather trim or a funnel neck.
It should really be pretty roomy , almost square and boxy. It should be long , over the bum and have an oversized look. In a heavy practical cotton, maybe waxed or at least rainproof. It should look functional!
( now’s there’s an idea : haha)

Styling tricks:
* Layer a lighter colour knit under the jacket( don’t default to black under there).
* Tuck your knit or tee into high waist pants to create shape and give the illusion (!) of a waist under there!
* Slouchy long pants will dress up the barn jacket. Ditto a pencil skirt . Swipez vous to see how I’ve been wearing it . If you’re feeling bold go for a sheer skirt a la Prada !
* Sneakers in brown dress down the classic pants.( white sneakers? Not wrong but time to store them!)
* Love the idea of a barn jacket with heels, boots, white mules and kitten heels. Yes ! That’s how I will wear it . It’s the contrast of high/low that makes it interesting/unexpected = cool.
* Hint: make sure it’s oversized and BIG , that is what makes it look fashiony. You do not want to look like the Queen in Balmoral (!) so It needs drama & to make a statement.
