A brown leather jacket is at the top of my fall list. I already have a black one I’ve worn for years, so this season I’m looking for the brown version that can work just as hard in my wardrobe.

I pulled together a few styles I’m loving, from structured and cropped to relaxed and oversized. The goal isn’t just to find what’s trending. I want the one I can throw over denim, satin skirts, dresses and everyday basics for the next 3–5 seasons.

Building my fall capsule one piece at a time, starting with the satin skirt. 🤎

If you’re adding one to your wardrobe, start by looking at what you already own. Black is a great staple, then consider where the gaps are. Maybe chocolate or a deep wine works better with your existing wardrobe.

I’m also paying attention to silhouette. A simple bias-cut midi or maxi will have more longevity, while some of the asymmetric and drop-waist styles we’re seeing can be a fun, trend-forward addition.

The goal isn’t to collect every version. It’s to find the one that works with what you already have.

Building my fall capsule by shopping the gaps, not starting over.

I’m keeping pieces like my Bermuda shorts in rotation and changing how I style them as the season shifts. Try them now with a mule, then add a knit + loafers with socks when the temperatures drop.

The gaps I’m filling first: versatile knits for layering, a barrel jean for a new denim silhouette, and a few shoes that can transition the pieces I already own.

P.S. I still have my eye on these Free People bandana barrel jeans. Not exactly a capsule basic, but every wardrobe deserves an interesting piece.
