✨ House Fire Diaries: Part One ✨

After 14 months of insurance battles, demo days, and so many delays… we are finally starting the rebuild on our home after our June 2024 house fire. 🏡🔥

This series will take you behind the scenes of it all—the messy, the exciting, and the pretty things I finally get to pick out (hello tile, cabinets, and lighting ✨).

We’re hoping for six months of hard work and to be moved back in by the new year. Until then, I’ll be sharing every step here so you can help me make the big decisions (because we all know I love a group vote 🗳️).

House Fire Diaries: Part Two ✨

We’ve moved past demo and are finally making some design decisions 🙌 Flooring and paint were first on the list, and I need your help narrowing things down.

We previously had engineered wood, but it didn’t hold up against pets, toddlers, or water. This time we’re looking at LVP vs laminate - durable, easy to live with, and still beautiful. I’m leaning toward a timeless color, but I’d love your input.

For paint, I’m dreaming of warm whites with a touch of soft blue - think creamy walls with high-gloss blue trim and a matching kitchen island. You know I’m all about bringing you into the process, so go vote in my stories and share your favorite creamy whites or soft blues in the comments.

✨ House Fire Diaries: Part Three ✨

We’ve officially entered the “pretty things” phase of the rebuild, fixtures and finishes! 💡
Last episode, I shared our flooring and paint selections (thank you for all your help!), and now it’s time for the fun part, choosing lighting for the living room, dining room, and bathrooms, plus our new kitchen faucet. These are the little details that make a house start to feel like home again.

Welcome back to my House Fire Diaries, part 4!
 This phase feels like such a turning point – cabinetry, storage, and all the little decisions that will actually shape how we live in our home every single day.

One of the biggest advantages of rebuilding a house you’ve already lived in is knowing exactly what worked… and what absolutely didn’t. So every cabinet, every drawer, every inch of storage in this remodel has a purpose.

Our kitchen cabinets will be @BenjaminMoore Feather Down with a Porcelain Glaze island. We added a real pantry this time (finally), opened up the refrigerator wall, and added pull-out storage so nothing gets lost in those deep corners again.

In the bathrooms, the hall vanity is staying simple so I can decorate it later, and we totally reworked the master layout to include a double vanity, more drawers, and a built-in linen closet.

We’re also adding thoughtful storage throughout the house including a Murphy bed and closet system from Wayfair in the guest room, an @IKEAusa PAX walk-in for the master, and another PAX system just for my hosting pieces. And yes… my favorite @Anthropologie swiggle switch plates are coming back home too.

It’s not glamorous yet, but these details are what will make everyday life so much smoother once we’re finally living here again. Next up: tile selections, and I’ll need your help choosing.
