Transplanting my Chicago fig tree to a bigger pot so it has space to thrive this season! A good potting mix makes all the difference—especially for container-grown trees. I used a mix that keeps the soil light, drains well, and packs in nutrients to support strong root growth.

If you’re growing figs in a container, don’t forget to size up as they grow!

⬇️🚨 What’s getting hit the hardest? 🚨⬇️

🥑 Avocados – A case of avocados has already jumped from $68 to $85-$88, and the costs are trickling down to consumers.

🍓 Strawberries – Mexico supplies nearly 99% of imported strawberries to the U.S., and with the new 25% tariff, prices are bound to rise.

🫐 Other Berries – Blueberries and raspberries are also expected to see price increases since over half of U.S. imports come from Mexico and Canada.

🥦 Vegetables – Nearly 70% of imported vegetables come from these regions, meaning everything from bell peppers to cucumbers could see a price hike.

These tariffs, which took effect on March 4, 2025, are already making an impact. Local businesses and suppliers in Georgia are seeing increased costs, and those will likely be passed on to consumers in the coming weeks.

If you’ve been thinking about growing your own food, this might be the perfect time to start. Even a small home garden can help offset rising grocery prices. Who’s ready to plant some avocados and berries this season? 🌱

⬇️ Here are a few ways to use them after blanching:

🥗 Sautéed Greens – Toss them in a pan with olive oil, garlic, and red pepper flakes for a quick side dish.

🍜 Noodle Bowls – Chop and mix them into ramen, pho, or pasta for an extra boost of greens.

🥪 Wraps & Sandwiches – Use them in place of lettuce or blend into a pesto for a flavorful spread.

🍚 Grain Bowls – Fold them into quinoa, rice, or farro with a drizzle of lemon and tahini.

🥚 Egg Dishes – Stir them into an omelet or frittata for a nutrient-packed breakfast.

If you’ve never cooked with broccolini leaves, this is your sign to give them a try! 🌱
