Washable silk? Yes please!

I got this @onequince dress maybe a year ago and have washed it several times and it still looks and fits like new. Hang it up during a long shower or steam it and the wrinkles from washing fall out. It can glam up or be a casual day look like I did here. I think it was inspired by a dress I also have from Banana, but it’s a completely different fit and fabric and I love it for completely different reasons. I almost took it on my cruise but I had already packed a black silky dress of the same length.

Sunglasses are new; I’ve struggled to find elevated prescription sunglasses in a classic Wayfarer design that fit my big head. These are from @caddis_life and are so well made and I could customize the lens and frame colors and more!

Orange is my favorite color so when I saw this flattering crepe dress and matching cardigan at @anntaylor I couldn’t resist getting them! And hello petites above a size 12, perfect for my midsize 16 petite self! I paired it with aqua earrings for some contrast and leopard print sandals that come in widths for a look that can go from desk to drinks, cold air conditioned offices to a warm summer evening outside.

Some days are so hot and humid, the idea of a top and bottom and a fitted waistband sounds like torture. Enter the lightweight cotton dress. When it’s hot hot hot breathable fabrics are the only way to go to remain cool. And cotton poplin looks crisp and polished even when you’re sweating. This shirt had hidden buttons to prevent gaps at the bust and looked fresh after an entire day in the sun and humidity. The skirt is a subtle bubble which catches the breeze and isn’t transparent. Pops of red add fun and fashion. Shirt is XL, skirt is L but wish I got M.

What I wore for the 4th was a perfect look for any day in the summer. Both pieces have been so versatile and the quality of this shirt will blow you away. I own another shirt with the same stripe but after a few washes it looks very… relaxed. This one stays crisp and the collar stayed popped all day and the natural cotton fibers kept me cool. The shirt is designed for curves with hidden buttons to prevent gaping and a hint of stretch for an expert fit.

And this midi length bubble skirt is so fun with deep pockets; if in doubt size down (I wish I did)

My tips for beating the summer heat as someone born and raised in humid Washington DC? Breezy dresses in breathable fabrics, sandals with soles that will keep you far from hot sidewalks, replace leather for canvas and raffia, choose lightweight non-metal earrings and necklaces, and go bold with a shorter haircut (it will grow back!)

Last night went to the theater to see the Broadway show Ain’t Too Proud, about the Temptations. It was hot and humid and this black crocheted dress and matching cardigan was perfect. This set is so versatile; the lining is removable so I can customize over a colored slip or even wear as a swim coverup! The cardigan kept me warm in the chilly theater. Mixing brown and black is very chic this summer; this pouch purse holds plenty and is soft leather and the leopard sandals (which come in widths) mix the two colors. Added bold silver jewelry to add personality. I also did a smoky blue eye to make the blue glasses pop! For reference I am a size 14 petite usually and am 5’3” and 50 years old.

Stretchy denim jumpsuit with snaps and pockets for polished comfort all day. It’s size inclusive and petite friendly (I’m 5’3”). Added a pop of color with these like suede sneakers from Veja that are comfy and surprisingly roomy for my wide feet!
