Who else rocked the bubble skirt in the 80s? 🙋🏻‍♀️ I never thought I’d be rocking one again at age 50 but I love this one and wear it so often. My favorite way is with a crisp poplin shirt tied at the waist. Breezy summer style!

Orange is my favorite color so when I saw this flattering crepe dress and matching cardigan at @anntaylor I couldn’t resist getting them! And hello petites above a size 12, perfect for my midsize 16 petite self! I paired it with aqua earrings for some contrast and leopard print sandals that come in widths for a look that can go from desk to drinks, cold air conditioned offices to a warm summer evening outside.

Some days are so hot and humid, the idea of a top and bottom and a fitted waistband sounds like torture. Enter the lightweight cotton dress. Not fitted, not lined, belt optional, and moisture-wicking slipshorts or undies below to stay cool and chafe free. Keeping it real, my fellow grown-ass women. When it’s hot hot hot breathable fabrics are the only way to go to remain cool. And cotton poplin looks crisp and polished even when you’re sweating. This shirt had hidden buttons to prevent gaps at the bust and looked fresh after an entire day in the sun and humidity. The skirt is a subtle bubble which catches the breeze and isn’t transparent. Pops of red add fun and fashion. Shirt is XL, skirt is L but wish I got M.

What I wore for the 4th was a perfect look for any day in the summer. Both pieces have been so versatile and the quality of this shirt will blow you away. I own another shirt with the same stripe but after a few washes it looks very… relaxed. This one stays crisp and the collar stayed popped all day and the natural cotton fibers kept me cool. The shirt is designed for curves with hidden buttons to prevent gaping and a hint of stretch for an expert fit.

And this midi length bubble skirt is so fun with deep pockets; if in doubt size down (I wish I did)

My tips for beating the summer heat as someone born and raised in humid Washington DC? Breezy dresses in breathable fabrics, sandals with soles that will keep you far from hot sidewalks, replace leather for canvas and raffia, choose lightweight non-metal earrings and necklaces, and go bold with a shorter haircut (it will grow back!)

Last night went to the theater to see the Broadway show Ain’t Too Proud, about the Temptations. It was hot and humid and this black crocheted dress and matching cardigan was perfect. This set is so versatile; the lining is removable so I can customize over a colored slip or even wear as a swim coverup! The cardigan kept me warm in the chilly theater. Mixing brown and black is very chic this summer; this pouch purse holds plenty and is soft leather and the leopard sandals (which come in widths) mix the two colors. Added bold silver jewelry to add personality. I also did a smoky blue eye to make the blue glasses pop! For reference I am a size 14 petite usually and am 5’3” and 50 years old.

Stretchy denim jumpsuit with snaps and pockets for polished comfort all day. It’s size inclusive and petite friendly (I’m 5’3”). Added a pop of color with these like suede sneakers from Veja that are comfy and surprisingly roomy for my wide feet!

Linen in linen on linen all summer long; no f*cks left to give about wrinkles (though this shirt is truly no-iron).

And white pants? Thats what Tide pens, Shout wipes, and. Spray bottle with peroxide and Dawn are for. Pants are on their third summer thanks to these stain remover tips and oxygen bleach! BTW, totally used the Tide pen after this as I, as typical me, splashed some of my iced latte on my leg 🥴 I love white pants too much to drop them due to my klutziness! How about you?

What to wear for a day on a boat? UPF quick dry fabric so you’re protected and comfortable! This UPF rashguard from @landsend comes in a range of prints and colors, petite and tall, and plus size. I’m wearing size large petite on my midsize 14/16 body. The shorts are @athleta and size large. My boat shoes were my beloved @teva Hurricane Drift sandals; they’re also imo the best travel and walking sandals for summer!

Bonjour from a weekend at the beach! Kept away the chill at the end of the day with this 100% cotton drifter sweater from @landsend I am wearing size L. The shorts are @jcrew and a favorite. My style hack for great fitting shorts is to go up a size from what you usually wear with jeans. Don’t like the number on the label? Influencer BTS: sometimes campaigns become family jokes. When you spend a lot of time planning and editing, those in your house end up hearing about it a lot 😂 we have jokes from campaigns I did a decade ago, but when it comes to Chico’s, it’s probably one of the family jokes mentioned the most often!

As a woman over 40 with soft curves, shorts aren’t easy to wear. But I love the length, fabric, and ease of these linen ones from Universal Standard. Paired with a matching stretch linen shirt I looked pulled together while being cool and comfy. This bag is years old but I linked to other bags I’d get if I didn’t already have this one.
