On set today and it was COLD!! So I decided to wear two jackets which I was able to do due to the roominess of the overcoat. I’ve been getting alot of wear out of all of these pieces in very different combinations of late. The underneath jacket is super comfy and very warm so great for the freezing studio today and equally great at home, over active wear or just lounging around. The coat is in a light cashmere so it’s also very comfortable to wear and the width of the coat (it’s kinda like a long version of a peacoat) allows for me to layer with bulky knits or in this case, a jacket. @uniqloau @perricutten @oroton

The men’s shows in Paris that have just finished have provided me with loads of ideas to incorporate into my own dressing and dressing at large. The new men’s Celine show was incredible and just so many styling ideas. This one is very simply just tying some thin leather cord (or a leather rolled belt) around the waist of a coat or jacket. It just gives a great modern update that is just so easy and simple. Some jacket and belt options below or just use what you have or buy some boot strapping from a shoe repair man!

I look at all the shows as they happen. There’s inspiration to be found everywhere, even the men’s shows and this colour combination comes by virtue of the latest Dries men’s show. I’ve been a bit basic in my colour work of late so here was a nice opportunity to try something new! This jacket is MNG and no longer available but there are some good subs in the link.

If you’re hunting for something to wear to a ball or wedding then Leo Lin is a very good place to look. I love how sophisticated this grey dress with black sequined flower is. This one might be my fave as it’s glam but understated. But if you want some colour and volume, Leo Lin has got that in spades. I also like that there’s a warm option as so often as a wedding guest you hit a certain point in the evening where you’re cold and borrowing someone’s jacket just doesn’t really suit the look!

Yet another of the joys of aging, I need to wear spectacles, mostly only for reading but given how important phones are in our lives these days, there’s not a chance I can read any of that font without them. These Chloe frames at least make me feel slightly cooler about my old eyes!

Here’s my look of the day- I first saw this jacket months ago at a press showing and have wanted it ever since so when it went on sale I was pretty excited and it still is!
I like it best with a narrower leg line (that ruffled edge would be too much with a wider leg) so I’ve paired with my straight leg jeans (in a rigid denim - always my preference!!).

It's not always possible but I will try to do nearly every look of the day as I wear them (Unless it's a working form home trackie day!). One of my 'staples' is white jeans, I have a few different shapes and they feel fresh and easy to wear and obviously work with every colour combination. These jeans are from Uniqlo, coat from Friends with Frank, this chocolate knit is from Theory (but I purchased this last year when no one was doing chocolate however there are loads around and I've included other brands in the link). I am slightly tired of wearing trainers and am trying to decide on which loafer in chocolate to purchase _ I like them both!

I really like adding life to neutrals by adding pops of colour with accessories. This incredible bag is from Among Equals which is a non profit company that helps women in New Guinea create these traditional woven bags and get paid for them! The colours are amazing! I was particularly excited to be invited to a Mad Men themed party this weekend. I mean, there are very few TV shows or movies for that matter that have been as meticulously designed as this show. As an interiors stylist once told me, she liked to watch it with the sound off (not because the dialogue was bad as it wasn’t, it was fab, but because she could just take in all the beauty better without the distraction of sound - yes @megan_morton I’m speaking of you!!). I loved all the seasons and their era interpretations but Betty Draper season one was pretty incredible. Remember her riding outfit!!! This look is from @leolin_official

Some fur coats look tacky and fake but this one doesn’t look either (although I have no idea what animal this would be if it were real!). I recall my mother had a real one not dissimilar to this in the early 70’s which was amazing (I think it was Oscar de la Renta) that I always coveted and I don’t have it now because our family home and all its contents burnt down in the bushfires of 83, maybe that’s a story for another time! Anyway, it does remind me of that one, similar length and shape too. I love how they’ve (Zara) have styled it with flat over the knee boots but I happened to be wearing wide white jeans which I think it also works well. It’s a good weight for our winter and it’s extra without being tacky. If you’re after a fun and functional coat, consider this one.

This coat is the perfect evening coat. You can wear as a tuxedo coat with pants or denim or over a gown for getting to the party. It has a great shoulder line and shaped through the body and perfect length. It solves the dilemma of looking chic but not freezing to death in an evening ensemble. Yes it’s pricey but I feel you’d wear this for many years so cost per wear…..

This coat is very extra (not available until July!) by Leo Lin. The jeans I’m wear under are my new faves. They’re by Uniqlo and called the Baggy Curve. They are super comfortable and come in a few colours. I like combining extra pieces with something more paired back (eg embroidered coat and worn denim jeans and a tee or embellished blouse with something kind of utilitarian pant etc).

Day 3 of Fashion Week and today I’ve done another full Bassike look. I am totally loving these oversized coats. This is a brown/grey wool check and these leather shorts (actually zip off pants) are so great! And also very into checked shirts right. What’s in store…this time at Scanlan Theodore.
Highlights for me were the leather pieces. I also loved the more ‘special’ pieces such as the feather dress (also comes in a top - the dress is definitely A LOT) and sequins.
Nice tailoring and denim were there too. I think I might be needing the charcoal culottes. This shape feels especially new and you could either make it work for day (as I’ve done here) o9r tight with a nice silk blouse or even the sequin top featured with the suede skirt.

Look of the day (but will work for the in between time of year or when it’s colder with boots). I love the shade of pink of the knit and it shouldn’t work with the skirt as the pink is a bit different but it kinda does. But the pink (either knit or skirt) will work really well with neutrals- like a deep brown or sand or even nice back to red if you’re more of a colour gal or this season’s lemon is a nice idea too. The skirt is gorgeous and will work equally well with poplin shirt or a tank.

Alpert for this in between time of year and can be worn with a simple tee or tank u see or a collared shirt or knit would also be great for the cooler days. And bonus…the jacket would work with so many bases- skirts, jeans, wider or even slimmer pants and same for the Bermuda, worn without the jacket with a shirt or tee/tank on the warmer days. This is the perfect top and pant for a fancy dinner or even a party with a sparkly earring. Super simple and elegant. You could even break these apart and dress the pants more casually with a tank or tee and flat shoe and also wear the top with jeans for a less ‘formal’ approach. They’re both a a lovely weight fluid crepe that feels great to wear plus the pants are lined so that they’re not too see through (which can often be an issue with white pants). This set will look chic for years!

Another of the jacket shapes you should have on your radar is the The Barn Jacket. It’s usually in a denim or cotton canvas so it’s a great weight for that inbetween time of year where it can be hot or cold or somewhere between the two. Best for more casual moments and available in every price point! I love them over denim or cotton canvas or cord pants and a flat shoe or trainer. You should definitely consider having one of these in your wardrobe!

I’ve been getting so many posts on my Instagram on Collagen (probably because I’m old) and I’ve found the whole topic very confusing - liquid over powder/dose amount/marine or bovine. I’ll take whatever help I can get as I know I should be embracing ageing which in essence I am, however, I would like to slow it down if possible…Anyway, I’ve been trialling and investigating a few brands and here’s my initial overview. I’ve used just a simple palette of back and white which makes it easy to add and update. Working with colour can be tricker but can be more interesting. The only problem with colour is that then all the bits need to work together and sometimes that can mean a full wardrobe overall.
