3 SHAPE RECOGNITION ACTIVITIES FOR TODDLERS!

Engaging toddlers in shape recognition activities fosters their cognitive and motor skills while enhancing their creativity.

In the shape stamp painting activity, children refine their fine motor skills by gripping and stamping shape toys onto paper, boosting hand-eye coordination. Simultaneously, they learn shape and color associations, nurturing their cognitive development.

The shape puzzle rice hunt promotes tactile exploration as they dig through rice, honing their sensory abilities. Identifying and placing puzzle pieces sharpens their problem-solving skills and spatial awareness.

And last but not least, the gross motor Simon Says game allows practice in using their listening skills and promotes physical activity. Jumping, hopping, and running to specific shapes requires balance and coordination and is the ultimate energy buster!

PIPE CLEANER ACTIVITY FOR THREE DIFFERENT AGE GROUPS!

These three pipe cleaner activities are perfect for toddlers AND preschoolers!

18-24 Months: Pipe Cleaner Colander - Toddlers will develop fine motor and color recognition skills as they play with the Pipe Cleaner Colander activity. They can stick colorful pipe cleaners into the holes of an upside-down colander, fostering hand-eye coordination and creativity in a safe and engaging way.

2-3 Years: Pipe Cleaner Fishing Color Match Fine Motor Activity -
For the 2-3-year-olds, the Pipe Cleaner Fishing Color Match is a fun choice. Parents twist pipe cleaners into fish shapes and add water to a bin, creating a fun water-based activity. With jumbo tweezers, toddlers 'fish' for the pipe cleaners, refining their fine motor skills while practicing color identification.

Preschool ages 3 years+: Pipe Cleaner and Straw Bracelets -
Preschoolers aged 3 and up can dive into the world of fashion and fine motor practice with Pipe Cleaner and Straw Bracelets. Using colorful pipe cleaners and cut straw pieces or beads (always be cautious of choking hazards!), children will thread the straws onto the pipe cleaner until it's full. With your assistance, they can tie the ends together to create fun bracelets, adding an extra touch of creativity to their self-made accessory collection.

HOW TO START ACTIVITIES WITH YOUR KIDS! ⬇️

Obviously I'm a HUGE advocate of at-home kids' activities and providing your children with opportunites for exploration and discovery everyday. However, I also know that I have a background and a lot of experience in childhood education. I have a masters degree in Elementary Education and was a third grade teacher before having babies! I have put in A LOT of time and practice to get to the level of comfort and confidence I have to carry out these learning activities with my girls each day.

Those years of first-hand experience reduced the stress I have towards teaching my children pretty much down to nothing. I know I can do it. BUT I WOULDN'T FEEL THAT WAY WITHOUT TIME AND PRACTICE. Like everything, you need to jump in, try, and simply do your best.

Start small and celebrate small victories. Have a goal of actively engaging your child for 3 minutes and then when that's achieved, try for 5 minutes and so on overtime.

The small victories will compound, your child will learn expectations, and your confidence will grow!

My top advice: Begin early with basic sensory exploration for infants, gradually incorporating more materials and concepts as they grow. Focus on sensory exploration and motor skills. Then, super simple activities like color and shape recognition and basic counting can start between 12-24 months, then evolve to more complex versions as your child becomes comfortable. For preschoolers, advanced storytelling and math concepts can be introduced.

Always prioritize positive reinforcement and adapt activities to your child's pace and interests. This approach fosters a love of learning and prepares your child for school, building their skills and confidence step by step.
