The painting tool I wish I would’ve tried sooner: a paint pad.

This $12 find gave me a smooth finish, cut hours off my painting project and left no mess. Seriously - I didn’t even need a drop cloth. After this, I may never go back to a paint roller.

Ok I’m converted on the paint pad method! The finish was so smooth - no lines, no paint splatters and I could cut in almost right next to the crown molding.

Painting can definitely be the most exciting part of a DIY project (the finish line is so close!) but choosing a paint color can sometimes feel overwhelming. Last year I knew I wanted to flip my bedroom from beige to green but was so nervous about picking the perfect green. I have north facing light in this room, which is known for pulling out blue tones, so I knew I needed to find a green with warm brown undertones in order to keep the room feeling warm and not cool.

I sampled no less than a dozen greens and landed on Treron by Farrow & Ball, and I have no regrets! It feels like the perfect warm hug, both day and night. If you're contemplating a green, I've rounded up my top 5 greens today on AllisonSkiff.com (you can always search for "green" if you need to come back to it). I'm also including notes on which lighting works best for each color. An easily overlooked but important thing to keep in mind when picking a paint color.

This time instead of ordering more paint samples, I ordered swatches from @samplize They’re made with REAL paint and therefore provide an exact color match (so you know what you’re getting!). I feel like “the one” has to be in here somewhere.

Here’s how it works:
• Snip the caulk tube open
• Add 20 ml of your paint (measuring tool included)
• Screw the lid on and shake for 60 seconds
• Add the provided thickener
• Shake again for 60 seconds
• Wait 30 minutes
