Once the Christmas bins are packed away, I always appreciate a little visual breathing room in my home. And if I’m honest, that’s usually when I start seeing Valentine’s Day decor everywhere… and feeling zero rush to do the same.

This year, I kept it simple.

Nothing themed. Nothing overdone. Just small changes that make the house feel cared for, not cluttered.

I shared the four things I actually do to decorate simply for Valentine’s Day in today’s article, along with why I think giving your home a break between seasons matters more than we talk about.

The other day I walked into Hobby Lobby for some craft supplies, and I was overwhelmed with the floor to ceiling shelves stuffed with holiday decor.

What are we doing, y’all? It’s all imported junk that will make its way to the landfill. Sad, honestly.

This year I am determined to use what I already have to decorate. When I buy something new, I want to make sure that I can use it in multiple ways.

For example,I used vintage book pages in my set of gold frames, and I’ll switch them out for Easter with some more vintage images.

Five books I’m loving lately:
1. The Bible is for You, a devotional to help you read the Bible completely through. It’s filled with an easy to read devotional, followed by the verses that go with that day.

2. Entertaining 101, I checked it out from the library and loved it so much that I bought a copy. It’s full of entertaining advice, fabulous recipes, menus and advice for pulling the menus together.

3. Every day with Babs, let’s be honest - the hardest part of dinner is coming up with what to cook. This solves the problem!

4. The Southern Living Party Cookbook, my favorite on the list. Parties and occasions organized and menus planned for each.

5. Ralph Lauren: A Way of Living, it’s pricey but worth it. Pages full of inspiration.

A little tour of our dining room this Christmas.

The busyness of Christmas when our kids were small was, frankly, overwhelming. Ken worked nights, weekends, and holidays, so the magic of Christmas fell on my shoulders. Now that our kids are grown, I am so happy to continue to creating magic for them. Our home is too quiet when they’re not around. I also came to realize that while Ken was busy working holidays, he missed out on experiences with them. He absolutely loves Christmas, so any opportunity I get to decorate our home for Christmas is worth it.

A peek into our breakfast room at Christmas! 🎅🏼 Santa mugs and jadeite green really make this space feel jolly and festive. This is where we eat most of our meals, play board games, and work on our annual Christmas puzzle together.
