our living room before and after (3 years later!!) ✨ something that we rarely see on here is HOW LONG making a space that feels like YOU takes. you just see someone’s space and think: there’s no way i have the time/money/vision for this. this place was one big (but to me it felt MEGA) blank canvas that intimidated me because Marcus and i only lived in tiny new york apartments for a couple years at a time. having a short lifespan in one apartment became the norm so we both became professionals with revamping a space with quick fixes and then 2-3 years later, packing up everything and moving on to the next thing 📦. but this was different. this was our first home together. we sat in a lot of discomfort knowing that what we had wasn’t what we had envisioned…yet. it’s getting one thing, pause, one more thing, pauuuusssee. it sits in “almost there?” for years sometimes. especially because furnishing a place is 💸💸💸💸💸. it takes one little thing at a time. (unless you’ve got the budget to go all in at one time, in which, GO OFF GIRL! 💃🏻) each step you make is one mosaic of the final project. (except is decorating your home ever a finished project? lol) Marcus and i find a lot of joy in home design, and ITCH for a finished space, but we’re not the kinda people who can afford to just go in somewhere and buy all the pieces we want. 80% of this space is second hand — lots of beautiful (and not so beautiful) estate sales and antique shops, driving far distances for a snag off facebook marketplace, and even rummaging through my in-laws attic to find an old gem. we’ve lived in this house for almost three years, and i just now feel like it’s feeling like the mosaic is coming together. i know our style isn’t for everyone, but whatever your style is, i hope you create a space that feels wholeheartedly YOU even in the uncomfy “not finished” stages. 🫶🏽 homedesign homedecor homesweethome
