Start drying your hydrangeas!

The nights are getting cooler and your hydrangea’s magical fall color change is putting on its full display! Panicle Hydrangeas will change color in the fall not as a result of the pH of the soil (that is their cousin, macrophylla and mountain hydrangeas) but as a result of the cooling nights. These temperature drops signal to the plant that it should mature the petals from creamy whites and pinks to deep reds. Not every plant will turn as deep of a pink as the hydrangea pictured. #hydrangea #fallcolors🍁🍂 #fallgardening #gardening101

Fall transitional outfit!

Mums seem to be very controversial - either you LOVE them for fall and can’t image your porch without them, or you HATE to see them once September cools down. If you fall into the I don’t like mums group (or you have trouble growing them and want to try something else) try asters! Asters can be put in the ground and will return yearly for most growing zones. They have a similar mounding growing shape and big beautiful flush of color. Fall is the best time of year to dig and divide plants…except for sedum! Sedum is happiest if you wait to dig and divide it until the springtime. Unlike spring and summer blooming perennials, sedum is just getting started putting together its show in the fall.
